It happens so rarely, but when it does, you have to just decide to be awake until you cannot be anymore. I get up, put on my chunky nerd glasses, make some cream of chicken soup (or whatever is in the house) and read up on some history. When the sky starts to turn the wrong color and I cannot keep my eyes open anymore, I put the book away and crawl back into bed. Cool

Polly post us a pic with the NERD glasses!

I have a stack of books next to my bed for my long nights of no sleep. Once I get to sleep I am ok, but getting to sleep can be a real pain in the behind sometimes.

I have found the joy of the all night sauna. More than once I have walked over to one, and took in a good soak, and that seems to do the trick sleep comes easily afterwards.

1-Get up and make some herbal tea. If that doesn't work I...

2-Turn on that Harry Connick, Jr. CD that's so mellow it usually knocks me out. But, if it doesn't, I...

3-Turn on the light and read for awhile. That usually hushes all the thoughts running around my brain that have been keeping me awake and within 1/2 hour I'm asleep. If not, I...

4-Turn on Star Wars Episode I. I guess I've seen it so many times that my brain can completely shut off. I'm usually asleep by the pod races. If that doesn't work, I...

5-Give up because there's no hope for sleep.

Cool

Had a friend who'd ride his motor cycle for miles across country if he couldn't sleep. When he bought a car, he'd decide to go fishing in some remote place at 2/3 am, and drive for an hour or two. Or, drive downtown, parkup and watch the nightlife and street theatre around the city.

One morning, I happened to be visiting and he brought up the idea and I thought it was a good one. So, I went along. Well, we eventually arrived and drove onto this long wharf in the middle of nowhere, broke out the fishing gear(nothing serious) and started to fish.

At the time , the moon was behind the clouds so it was darker than hell but we'd cast the lines out and reel in small but respectably sized herring whilst waiting for the big strike(since the wharf covered a large area of water, I'd automatically assumed we were in "blue" water territory). Anyway, the fish stop coming but the bites though remaining small were still enough to empty our lines of bait.

Then, the moon shone out from behind the clouds, and lo and behold, the "promising bites" we had been getting turned out to be crabs ripping off the bait.. We had been casting lines onto mud flats after the tide had long gone out at least for a good 20 minutes before.

Get a good nights sleep first. Catch 22.
