New visa rules expand residency rights here
The Justice Ministry said yesterday that foreign residents with children who are divorced from their Korean spouses will be allowed to stay and work in Korea regardless of which parent has custody. The ministry said that more than 90 percent of foreign spouses in Korea are women. It said the new rules were for the protection of those women and their children. In particular, the ministry said, women would not need fear filing for divorce on grounds of physical abuse.
