|
|
Hi Everyone
Just curious what kind of vacation benefits other contract holders are getting out there? I work 30 hours a week at 1.9W a month which is low by some and normal by others but I have 4 weeks of vacation! The only catch is that it's delegated... and we only get it in 1 week periods.
Also, this is off topic but I'm wondering what the best way to arrange a travel visa and good flight to Thailand, China or the Phillipiines would be at Christmas time? Any suggestions? |

After 3+ years teaching here, 1.9 is a bit low but not out of the realm of realism if the 4 weeks is on top of the Korean red days. Having delegated vacation periods is not unusual, expecially if you are teaching younger kids.
On your off topic question, you probably do NOT need a visa to visit Thailand or the Philippines (can't be 100% sure without knowing your nationality). If you are from a legal E2 country then you are on a visa waiver list for 21 days in the Phils and 30 days in Thailand.
You can get a visa for 30 days as a tourist from the Chinese embassy in Seoul or Busan. It takes 4 days for the process. 1 application form properly filled in, 1 wallet sized photo and the appropriate fee. Cost is $60 for Americans and $35 for the rest of us.
Philippine Airlines is the best price to the Phils and Air China is the best price to Beijing. Packages are also available but are a bit expensive if you are travelling on a "KOREAN Holiday period". Shop the airlines for ticket prices to Thailand. Best airline pricing depends on whether you are going to Phuket, Bangkok, Phattaya or Koh Samui. Different airlines offer changing prices. |

Thanks for that
I think 1.9 is standard for a new teacher using a recruiter. It's lower than some of my friends but I like my job better than they do. I'm not really here for the money.
The travel info is helpful to. I have a U.S. passport so hopefully I don't need a visa for a 4 day trip to Thailand or Phillipines!
Thanks again!

in thailand they will give you a 30 tourist stamp on arrival at the airport.
be careful of the taxi mafia waiting for you at the exit of the airport. when you depart thailand you will need to pay a departure tax into a machine of 500b and show the receipt to customs. PM if you have any q's |

The standard was 1.9 about 3-4 years ago. If you look through some of the ads on Daves you'll see that most hagwons offer starting salaries of 2.1-2.4. With the new regulations in place, I would only accept 1.9 if I were teaching 3-4 hours a day. |
