I don't see a problem with that situation at all. |

The original El mariachi was filmed in Mexico with a zero-budget. We can do the same. As far as the legal objections, 3 points:
1) We are already filming illegally, so we've gotta be ready to run as it is
2) busy streets make for crappy copy anyway, so we'll be using deserted side streets, indoors, and roof tops alot
3) they are bb guns, every 7 year old in town has them right now. True, we'll also be using low grade explosives (fireworks) to simualate colateral damage. but hey! see 1&2.
...and that "idea" you posted will get us in alot more legal trouble then any amount of guns. ANYTHING featuring korean women on film will be an issue- unless it portrays them as perfect and virginal. |

U mean they're not perfect and virginal? I am SHOCKED! Just shocked.
For the damge we dont even need explosives, i made a movie where we used compressed air (those bug spray things) and the air would make a popping you could even throw in blood and it looked very kool. |

oh, and as far as the *bang* of the bullet- I thought about just jacking up the music and making it quite cinematic. Which is better than admitting our inabillity to get real guns and/or blanks |

Sound FX for the guns could be added quite easily in post-production. I say run with the El-Mariachi idea. I'd love to help with production, but I just don't have the time. If you need a guy to work Avid or Premiere, however, I could be free for a couple weekends for editing.
The El-Mariachi (or El-Hairy-Ajoshi) idea just has so many opportunities to comment on life in Korea. And I bet there are plenty of Korean bar owners out there who would love to let you film in their bars for free, in the hopes of seeing their establishment on the big screen some day. Just convince them it's free advertising for them, and shoot on the off-hours before they open or after they close. |

Sound efx, the gun barrel fire, etc can all be added in post much easier than trying to achieve the effect in the real world. |

Isn't the concept of stealing anything from a Mexican kind of twisted?
What if the Korean girls wore T-Shirts with I'M A VIRGIN stamped to 'em.
(or find some Japanese girls willing to wear I'M A JAP HO T-shirts?)
Student radicals are notorious media hogs - I bet we could actually get real demonstrators to burn posters of McArthur and Bushee on film ...
Maybe we could expand the permission we do have to film Korean cultural groups to include westerm style cowboy "shoot-em-up" action on the perimeter of their cultural show featuring gongs and horses...? (Arguably, an artful juxtaposition of traditional Korean and American culture...) |

very...
The el mariachi idea is just a switch out on my part- ie replacing the zombie short. If it goes over well it could be made into a feature later.
rteacher, I'l put it this way ixnay on anything political. Hell, even the history books are censored here. Amd we're not stealing, we're remixing in an homage. |

really more just a "slice of life" I thought...
(back to the drawing board - maybe I'll come up with something by Sunday - probably try to develop the poker game/suicide theme ...)
also, I'm too old to go to jail and can't afford to get deported - my involvement beyond being a catalyst for ideas and a hack. anonymous writer may be limited (unless there's a very heavy and fathomlessly deep character role that showcases my ability to generate primal fear in the hearts and minds of viewers ...) |
