Man, our hagwon has leased a thing like a short automated bank teller (without the money slot). There's a place for a kid to put their finger and it reads their fingerprint.

If they're late an automated, robot phonecall goes to their parents; 'your kid is late'. If they're absent there's a robo-call off to Mama, too.

Next they'll have a beeper to let us know when the fries are up.

Anyone else have this unit or are we just too cutting edge?

That technology really exists? Wow! Do you think fingerprint recognizing devices will become common in the next few years? I've never seen one except in movies.

Well, in Korea they're already fully deployed. ATMs here have fingerprint recognition and some new cell phones have it as well.

All I wonder is how long before the kids screw up the device.

its fairly old technology. the AQIS (australian quarantine) offices in Canberra had fingerprint recognition on their doors in 1991 when i worked for them. i worked in darwin but i visited canberra once for a meeting and was intrigued with it.

they have taken a long time to catch on. there is an article in the september 10th issue of new scientist that talks about new ID systems. it seems iris scanning is more useful as fingerprints can change.

my hagwon in ansan had an ID card system. kids swiped their card on entering and leaving the school and were recorded on a computer in the office. kids loved to multiple swipe however - which messed up the records!

What a clever idea. Will schools back home try this or will the right-to-privacy movement prevent it?

The picture you have up is a very close resemblence to you mate, hehehe. Wink

I think I'll have to put that in at my hagwon for all the times you're five minutes late, that way I can make you kiss my ass, lol, but I'll have to remember to wash my hands after you use it. It's great after teaching here for years, now that my wife and I own a hagwon. I can give all the crap back that I use to get and don't have to take any from the azumas and their lunatics kids.........it's such good stress relief to be able to tell a complaining azuma that if she doesn't like it to go elsewhere and that no it's not the teachers fault, it's your crazy, disrespectful, non-paying attention, no homework doing little s@$t's fualt. Revenge is sweet, lol. Twisted Evil

And if you still don't know who this is 'Just Because' I'll see on thursday night at poker and give some more crap or just ask my wife when you go to work Tuesday.
