This is something that i've been wondering about Arirang, is it for foreign people or for Koreans? Do they show ANY negative thing about korea?
I've only watched it on and off while I'm at the gym, but three recent things I've seen:
1. Comparing a museum in Seoul to the Louvre
2. A "internet watch" feature, with some middle school girl changing the sea of japan to the east sea on the CIA factbook
3. Some random uni in a place next to russia beginning with U (Its late and I'm sleep deprived) with the professor lecuting about Korean studies and how its vital for any business person to study if they want to sucess.
It seems to me its just an English ego massage. Still it makes me laugh as I'm dying on my run. |

One of my favorite Arirang programs I've seen: a documentary-style news special about a mentally handicapped dance group in England. Most of the people had Down's Syndrome, and of course they spoke English, but because it was a Korean documentary they had dubbed what they were saying into Korean. Then because it was being shown on Arirang, they had to redub everything into English. Not quite sure why they couldn't just take away the Korean dubbing to just have the original English track, but the result was some English-speaking Korean voice actors who took it upon themselves to really make sure it was known these people were mentally challenged, complete with "duh's" and all. One of the guys made me think of Scooby-Dum, Scooby-Doo's cousin. It was very funny, but I kind of felt the flames of hell burning at the soles of my shoes as I was laughing at it. Korea: definitely not the land of the politically correct. |

I think Arirang TV is up there with CCTV-9 (anyone whose been to China knows what I'm talking about.)
I think of it as the red-headed step child of bad channels in the world. |

If you want to watch the news for comedy purposes, you should watch "The Daily Show" with John Steward on CNN.
Beats Arirang TV hands down!!!!!! |
