Howdy.

Umm... This is my first semi-lengthy post on any internet forum, anywhere, ever, but i am quite curious to hear stories about "meeting the parents" (of your Korean gf/bf).

I just met my girlfriend's parents this evening. We've been dating for about a year, but the parents were blissfully unaware until this afternoon. The whole family is very conservative and traditional (including my gf). They became aware of our relationship and promptly invited me over for dinner.

I was nervous as hell, let me tell you. However, it went pretty good, i think. Mostly, i stayed quiet, smiled a lot, and ate as much as i could. Brought a big case of fruit, of course. Felt like i was a bit of a circus geek much of the time. I lost points for slouching, but gained points on my chopstick-dexterity. Tried very hard (via smiling, nodding, and basically making a goof of myself) to evade any questions involving my economic status (both back home and in the future). Overall, i think i did an ok job.

I'm just curious if others could relate similar and/or related experiences. I believe it would be useful for me and entertaining for others. Thanks.

Sorry if this topic has been done before.

You do realise that meeting the parents almost always means marriage?

Well, yeah, i did kinda' know that. But that's ok. I'm almost nearly maybe totally (hell, okay, basically) commitment-minded. Only if the folks say cheers, of course...

Yeah sounds like the usuall crap when meeting the parents here. My wife is Korean and her parents are great especially seeing how they own a bar and the first time I met them, they told me to drink as much as I can, it's all for free. I don't think i could have done this good if i was back home.

I don't envy my best mate here though, his girlfriend's parents aren't just ultra conservative but down right hate foreiners. So when he meets daddy, it'll be hi how are you? then run for his life down the street as daddy gets out the shot gun.

I told that story on here almost a year ago back when I was an anonymous face...not so anonymous now but, hey Smile

Anyhow...the family seem to be slowly coming around, got a lot of free gamjatang off the sister today and the missus showed thema lot of my photos..

They said I was handsome so obviously they have some taste Smile
