I don't understand any of this. Yesterday I downloaded some torrent thing- I think it was from bittorrent.com. Then I was able to download shows from torrentspy.com.

However, today, it seems extremely slow. I'm downloading at about 4 KB/s.

When I looked for help on the torrentspy.com forums, it's all about azureus, which I don't understand, because aren't they two different things? Why is all the info on torrentspy about azureus? I'm not using azureus... though perhaps I should be.

If I do the azureus thing and pay, will I suddenly be downloading a lot faster? I'm so confused about all this.

You don't have to pay to use azureus. Azureus is simply one of the popular bittorrent clients available for download. It's popular and offers alot of functionality so it is often discussed on forums that deal with bittorrent. However, downloading azureus and running it will not alone change the speed of your download. Many factors influence download speeds. Some of these factors have been discussed in this thread. You should note that while azureus is a popular client it is also resource intensive and therefore you may want to think twice before using it. Many people, including myself, like small footprint clients like bit tornado.

In order to troubleshoot your current client you may try to download a very popular torrent which has a large number of peers. These torrents tend to result in faster downloads and uploads and may give you a clue as to the practical upload and download limits of your connection. If it's still dl'ing at a crawl look for documentation specific to your client that explains changing port ranges. Hopefully, this gives you some ideas on how to get started.

Cheers,
ejmlab

I downloaded a program. It's in a .ISO format. When I click on it, it goes to one of my programs 'Record it now!" and wants to make a copy. WTF?

What do I do to be able to use this file and open/install the program?

.iso is a disc image. What you need is a virtual drive on which you can mount the .iso image so that the operating system sees the disc data rather than just the image. There are several applications which provide virtual drives. If you have Nero burning rom you may already have the nero virtual disc application installed. look for an application in nero called imagedrive. Open that application and choose to enable the image drive (it'll ask you if you want to). When it says that the product hasn't passed windows testing select continue. Enable a drive and then browse for your image. Once you select an image it will appear as another drive in Windows explorer. Something like e:\ (if you have one harddrive and one optical device). Navigate into the new drive and launch the application/media or what have you. Good luck.

Cheers,
ejmlab

PS: Alcohol 120% also has virtual drive capabilities.

i've downloaded a few torrents successfully.
i'm hearing talk about limitless upload speeds, etc.....this is a little complex to me.
anyway, my speeds right now ('m using azureus) vary between 5 and 60. usually doesn't go any high than that. how can i speed this up? someone mentioned that you have to change the settings yourself, but i don't know how. i've gone through the options and i don't know where to change the speeds.
anyone else use azureus and care to help?

thanks!

No such thing as limitless upload speeds for the home consumer right now. I think, at best, you're looking at 5 mbps. Depends on what you're paying for. Ask your provider how much you're supposed to be able to get.

I use bit tornado, and I get upload speeds of up to 800 if there are enough seeders. I usually come home and snatch "The Daily Show" in less than 5 minutes. The problem is, whenever I connect to a torrent with around 25 or more seeders, the internet connection crashes and I have to re-start the computer. Even if I set the upload speed to as low as 20, it still crashes, and I have no idea why. Does anyone know what's going on here?

You can find nero with a crack code on bit torrent. I prefer using copy-to-dvd. Yeah I spent $60 for it but man is it worth it. You also need Divix to dvd program made by the same people to convert it to a dvd format. It take about 45 minutes for the whole conversion/burn process to run

DVD-rs are pretty cheap like 7000 won for a pack of 10. If you are buring tv shows then get dvd-rws those are re-writeable and save money. Copy to Dvd has an erase program with it

Make sure you didn't buy DVD+R if your hardware doesn't support it.
