Hi guys,

I'm doing a "grammar auction" next week and I have 15 or so incorrect sentences. I was showing them to my co teacher today and he didn't see anything wrong with "Let's play a game of card".

I told him cards are countable and therefore the error is the missing 's' however, recently I found out from my american buddy that u lot say Math instead of Maths (which I've been correcting in one girls diary) and was curious if its another american twist on our language! Very Happy

So right or wrong?

Bollox.

Math is a (US) abbreviation of mathematics and hence plural: in English the equivalent is maths (strictly, math's I suppose, as it's an abbreviation).

Of course, whether math, maths or mathematics is countable is a moot point. Laughing

Math and Maths are an abreviation for the same word 'mathematics' but they are just said differently by different people. As far as I know both are correct.

Its lets play a card game. Or, lets play a game of cards. There are many cards not just one.

Cards are indeed countable. Surprisingly so.
