Does anyone have any suggestions for fun, cheap, easy weekend trips in July and August? Romantic settings required, nice swimming spots preferred. We're not much into sports, seafood, or spending too much time on buses and trains. I heard the islands near Incheon are good for quietly relaxing, but the beaches aren't good. I heard Pusan has nice beaches, but it's far away and crowded. I've already been to Kyungju, and I live in Seoul.

Not sure if it's romantic, but it fits your other criteria: Suwon! Not too far from Seoul and one day you could go walk around the big wall in the city. That was a good time and quite peaceful. Then for the second day you could head to the Korean Folk Village if you haven't been already. Another good thing to do is go to the Everland waterpark, a bit crowded and not so romantic but a pretty decent time.

This time of year it's not the best, but I hear the hot springs a bit south of Seoul are quite nice.

For beaches I hear you should try GangWonDo, but no personal experience.

If you like camping try Seoraksan.

You should get info online though before you go. Especially this time of year I think you'll need reservations.

Also there are limited areas to actually camp AND have a fire.

The good news is you can find all you need to know online in English.

Has anyone been to Jindo? What do you think?

Lotsa things in eastern Chungcheong buk-do - go to Suanbo and the various oncheons - the public one is pretty good. Suanbo is kind of an old-fashioned laid-back sort of resort, doesn't get as crowded as some - lots of good eating there, mountain air and nearby is Weoraksan National Park's Songye Valley - some temples and good hikes. Not far is Chungju where you can take one of several boat trips on the Chungjugo lake. It's not so far from Seoul, now that they have the expressway open.

What about Buyeo and Gongju? I did 2 days trips there from Cheonan, but they could easily be turned into a weekend. They're not too far from each other at all. Also very easy to get to by bus from Cheonan, if there aren't direct buses from Seoul. Some beautiful countryside and enough little scenic things to see so you won't be bored. Very relaxing and lots of nice, cute farmer type people.

Another great place is Songnisan NP, not too far from Seoul I think. It's beautiful, one of my favorite places in Korea and defintely could be turned into a weekend trip if you're into hiking and walking in the forest.

Yes, all true! Found this thread doing a search for Buyeo (ο) because my husband and I went there this weekend and LOVED it! It's the Baekje version of Gyeongju (Silla), but with less hype and closer to Daejeon. Gongju is even nearer, but haven't been there yet. Gyeryong Mountain is also worth a look if you're in the neighbourhood.
