I love 'em too. I had to leave my lovely Cleo (See photo below) at home when I came to Korea. I thought I'd be OK for a year without a pet, but I only lasted 4 months before adopting Crazy Toni. I never planned to get a dog since cats are so much easier to have in an apartment and to move around. But, then Osito came into my life and now I'm a "dog person" as well as a cat lover.
As for cost, vet visits are cheaper then the US, but my animals have been problematic and I've been to the vet a whole lot more often then I was at home. Dog food is reasonably priced, but decent cat food is pretty expensive. I'm having to spend about 12,000 won now for diet food from a website (can't find anywhere else) for my "obesity" cat.

Yeah, she was 500, but from a private breeder- not Chungmurro (although I did find one there, as well). I found her over the internet, and the breeder was really into Corgis- they didn't seem like a puppy mill at all. Actually, the wife (it was a couple who bred them) was crying quite a bit the day I took Jjong, cuz I guess she was a favorite over there. |

I don't care about dog-eating anymore. I care about people who want to show off their dogs, show pictures and all, and pretend they really know this animal's well-being and fate, when I've saved a many and have had to even rescue one that had been run-over by a car and left to die.
Don't take dogs as status symbols. Most likely you'll end up with a stigma. But hey, I'll post a picture of my dog here someday, and perhaps you'll see, a dog is just a dog, no matter what it looks like. |

I'm onto this thread just to pinpoint what ignorance you might've overlooked in your own ignorance by being a dog owner in Korea and that by posting "innocent" pictures without expecting some kind of backlash.
Fact is, dogs are treated more inhumanely here, and in Asia, and being a dog owner is nothing to be proud of, as if you've risen above it all. You've forgotten, I assume, I'd had a dog for over five years here in Korea. I'm offering you, and others, a realistic picture and some advice.
You're really not into dogs. If you were, you'd be concerned about their treatment here, and not aggrevate the situation by showing off and pretending you're well-experienced in dog husbandry here, without realizing that some viewers here REALLY DON'T WANT TO SEE CUTE DOG PICTURES, after having understood the mentality toward such animals here and in Asia. |
What ever happened to Rock? And he never did get around to posting the pics of his outside, neglected, homeless dog, did he? |

I think can I understand where Rock was coming from, even if he got overemotional and lost his focus at times. He was wrong to single out Asians for criticism, but he did make legitimate points otherwise.
I hope Rock is okay -- some of his posts really worried me. (I don't mean the ones on this thread.) |

All of the beagles in Korea are carbon copies of one another. I don't need to post any pictures of my Sparky, because he looks exactly like the other two beagles already posted here. And no, for your information, beagles don't always look alike. 
I wonder if it's a Korean cloning experiment...   |

finally.
hopefully this works...
Here is "The Donger" "Rigger" "Digs" "Dong"....my jindo (mix or purebreed unknown). She was given to us by our neighbours and we weren't quite sure how "legit" she is. She looks pretty jindoy, but i can't image they'd just give us a pure breed.
i'm not telling my wife she's on the interweb here so....
not a bad vert eh? just over a year in that pic.
She's an incredibly radical dog in terms of her personality and playfulness.
But she has some real problems too that are associated with jindos i think. She is quite aloof to other dogs...she rarely plays for more than just a few minutes with friends she is VERY finicky with (dog friends).
With people, it takes only one or two outgoing meetings on your part and she'll wag and whine when she sees you.
cute i'd say.
like the ozzie dog...and the beagle..man those are some cuties...
i'll get some cat pics up soon too....we got a free cat from our vet. Our dog got run over by a car and broke her leg (the jerk didn't even STOP to see if she was ok). cat's a hymalayan who seems pretty cool....not really a cat dude.
what do you guys think? does she look like a jindo? |

I know, I know...not as cute as Butterfly's "dog", but...
My dog, ���� (Saja), a couple of years ago, before he "grew into" his name and paws. It was his first foray to Iho Beach on Jeju, and he was scared out of his mind by the water.
He got too big to live here comfortably, so he made the 24 hour trek back home last Christmas and is now very content in New Hampshire with my folks. |

Looks pretty danged Jindo-y to me too! Hell of healthy looking coat of fur too, nice!
About the aloofness. Shiloh does this too, he almost never barks back, never tries to pull toward small dogs, rarely barks at people. In a way it's great because we know that when he does bark or pay attention to something - it's real. |

Bailey! She's 10 months old.
The scar on her leg is from her luxating patella surgery, and the scar on her tummy is from being spayed. Haha, poor puppy!
Question! Is there anyone on here with a nice dog that would be willing to have a play date with Bailey? She needs to be socialized and we don't know anyone with dogs. It would also be nice to introduce her to a person who won't jab their hands in her face (GRRR so many people do that without asking!).
Anyways, PM me if you're interested in helping! We live in Bucheon but we'd be willing to travel almost anywhere in Seoul/Incheon/Bucheon. |
