I've been here five months and, well, you understand I can't be seen as some kind of fruity vegetarian, so naturally, I hadn't tried bibimbap yet. However, as fate would have it, tonight my usual corner restaurant ran out of donkkaseu and I thought, what the hey, nobody will see me, I might as well try the stuff.
I'm here to report that, wow, that bibimbap stuff is pretty great! |

"Did you know that Jeonju is famous for bibimbap?"
"Bibimbap is Michael Jackson's favorite Korean food."
For all you peeps living in or near Jeonju. I'm sure you've heard these a brazillian times. |

Next time, ask for Dol-sot Bibimbap.
It's cooked and served in a hot bowl. The rice browns up.
Very tasty. |

Also you can get extra meat in your bibimbap..
For soemthing a little bit more expensive but really tasty try this...
Order some bibimbap and some goon()(fried) mandu..
Put the mandu in the bibimbap and mix it up...
For about 6500 won it is a bloddy good meal |

Yeah...it's great...as long as you don't have it for lunch EVERY DAY FOR 2 WEEKS!!!!! It took me 7 years to touch the stuff again!!! Now, I'll eat it if I have to be polite....but otherwise, I'll choose ANYTHING else!!! |

I really enjoy a nice bibimbab too, but Korean food is functional to pretty good at best. I think we enjoy it sometimes just because it's here and things usually taste good when you're hungry. The only thing I can say to truly enjoy here is a good sam-gyeo-sal.
Congri, yucca con mojo y churrasco, hamburgers, and American Chinese buffet are more up the alley that I would call "delicious".
Can anyone HONESTLY tell me the ethnicity of ANY food they would prefer Korean over?? That is what tells me Korean food is not that good..I can't think of any other country whose food is worse... |

Yes, I can. I prefer Korean food over ALL other ethnicities of food. I am not joking, and I didn't truly feel this way until I'd been here a couple years, but by then I'd learned what all was out there, and realized that at least for me (I like healthy food with lots of raw vegetables, spice, salt, sour and garlic) there is nothing better. I seriously can eat dwenjangchigae for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday for a day after day after day. Just give me a little banchan variation. |

Man, you said the magic word... MANDU. I love those things.
kimchi mandu, kogi mandu, mul mandu, wang mandu, gun mandu.

chimpumcallao,
have you tried russian food? that stuff leaves much to be desired. japanese food gets rather boring quickly, in my opinion - and as delicious as it can be from time to time, a steady diet of thai food gets old fast. then of course there is the standard english food - new zealand cuisine isn't very exciting either - lots of meat pies.... lots of variety, that the key to happy dining - unless of course you happen to be in the middle east, which has the best food by far. |

perhaps its the lack of variety that has me down on k-food...but despite the blandness of other food, such as japanese...i still think korean food is not up there...at least for me...the quality is terrible and there is no seasoning...and NO i dont mean red pepper paste...i prefer russian and thai...definitely.... JMI.
i guess variety is key |

I think cham chi (tuna) kimchi dol sot bap is THE best of all the dol sot baps- I used to eat it everyday- I was addicted to it for months. The owners of the Yong Oodong I ate at everyday thought I didn't like Korean food because I ordered the same thing all the time. I was seriously addicted to it.
I don't like straight red pepper paste, though, so I don't eat bi bim bap. If it's being served at the cafeteria at work, though, I'll put soy sauce on it instead of using the gochu jang. |

Yep, its a decent meal alright! I usually order the dol sot bibimbap whenever I go out for lunch.... it seems to be pretty popular with the foreigners. Though there is a new teacher here that is having trouble even eating that... good luck to them! |
