who goes to watch a DJ?
what's the difference between one DJ and another? i can play records. what does a dj say? like, "Hey guys, when i play this record, i'm gonna push the play button really hard! and then i'm gonna play another record, and when i do that, i'm gonna push the play button with my eyes closed!!!. nobody else does that! nobody, baby!"
why don't you buy the records. then you can listen to them again and again and you don't need some funny looking british fellow dancing around with headphones on. |

How true. I've never subscribed to the 'cult' thing with DJs either. They are not musicians, although they might be creative artists in another way. |

she plays -ahem- 'Jacking Chicago House', and is really good.
The point of a DJ 'Billy' (if indeed that is your real name) is that they play music that makes you have a good time, music you can dance to for several hours non-stop, music that makes you excited and your heart pump.
The last time I saw DJ Heather she kept on 'dropping' (and be warned, I will be using these techincal terms liberally) mixes of pretty cheesy R&B songs, but the beats were 'fire' and she played at them at just the right points in the night so people were jumping up and down singing along to some mad mix of a Prince record, pumping their fists in the air, swinging their hips, jumping up and down.
Oh it was a good time. |

What makes you think that William Billybob Roberston is not my real name? So-called 'Swiss' James. there's nothing Swiss at all about you, other than your huge stash of nazi gold |

| don't ba a lame-o Billy. I'm not into electronica or dj culture at all but I'd always be down to give my left nut to watch a dj shadow, dan the automator, or kid koala show. |

When I was younger, it was hard for me to imagine the actual potential of a DJ, but after being one for awhile, I learned a few things:
Anybody can play records, but it takes someone with a good ear and a lot of meticulous skill to match beats on two different records and even more to even out the varience in pitch, tone, and melody. If they can do that for 2-3 hours plus without a break, hoping to god people actually dig their music selection that they spent $300 or more on, eventually move on to producing original music, make some cash and an image, they deserve at least a little credit.
Unfortunately, a lot of folks out there don't understand the work of a dedicated DJ, so they don't give much credit where it's due.
To some, the music may sound like beeps and blonks just as country music sounds like Klan anthems to others. There are some DJ's who just push a play button, and plenty of folks naive enough to believe that they are good DJ's if they have the right tunes. On the flipside, if a DJ doesn't do a damn thing and somehow helps people have fun for a night, more power to him/her. |

as mentioned, DJ's often get frustrated with overplayed, commercially available recordings and go on to produce their own tracks.
they are musicians in their own right. there is no way someone can manipulate sound and beats without having musical talent. the difference between a bad dj and a BAAAAD one is evident in the speed of your feet. |

That's the kind of thing my mother used to say in 1992. Get with the program kid (like my mother), and go and see DJ Heather. You might even enjoy yourself |
