I noticed upon turning pro she's shilling for Sony. Japan Inc.! Oh my god! Too bad she doesn't have Korean citizenship to be stripped of by an outraged Korean public. |

Jaderedux, she'd be American (maybe Korean-American) if she were booked for soliciting. She's a champion golfer, so of course she's Korean.
Igotthisguitar -- Better watch yourself. She's only 15, still in high school, still not old enough to drive a car.

Same thing with Cage's wife. If the typical Korean knew how little they have in common with some Korean-Americans... |

annoys me when Koreans, Korean-Americans, Americans of Korean heritage, whatever, are world famous using one name, yet are referred to in Korea with their Korean name. Does Michelle Wie even know that her Korean name is Wie Sung Mi?

I would also like to add Christina Kim to the list of Korean golfers since many Korean-Americans are affectionately known as Koreans in the United States. |
According to a Korea Times article on Korean golfers.
I can just hear the editors now, "Can't we just make up a name for her. She'll never know." |

They feel so small so they just make stuff up. They do it with history too. That inferiority complex is just so big. Can you imagine papers in the UK refering to George Bush as English? |

No, but the ironic thing is that both the Bushes & Windsors ARE of the same bloodline. Trace it back
Didn't people leave England to GET AWAY FROM monarchial tyrannts? At least that's the line we commoners have been sold.
Who knows. maybe they came mostly just to kill Indians & play a little golf. |

Yes. Although every Korean I've ever met with that surname has said (or someone else said) that the family originally came from China. So... Is "Lopez" an American family name? I see it sort of like that. |

Actually, my take, too. Wei is not a common name and I would assume descends from the Peakche/Three Kingdoms (I think) period when there was a Chinese commanderie permanently stationed in Korea. Of course, it could be more recent. |

gwangjuboy, in fact they don't need to make stuff up cause Korean female golfers are actually big favorites to win in LPGA. it IS quite phenomenon these days. i cant see any bit of nationalism involved in this article. so of course the small one is to be yourself who think Korea should be small in your limited knowledge. and ive to say its funny to see how you displayed your paranoia after some bar experience here on another thread. ha. gwangjunaiveboy.
some tidbits.
there are 25 KOrean women holding Korean citizenship in LPGA, 15 of them are the winning champions.
michelle speaks Korean.
her mom is former Miss Korea.
the origin of Wie family in Korea is known as a Chinese immigrant who was an envoy from Tang to Shilla about 1,400 years ago. |

If Koreans can claim royal blood from that far away, then I might just go to France to reclaim the family domaine (yes, Holly has blue blood). Just call me Count Hollywood de la Action. |
