Mr. Hite,
Just as an exercise in mental agility, let's see if you can make a post on this thread without refering to the US. Like uh, you know, for instance talk about Canada without defining it as NotAmerica. You can do it! I know you can. |
Canada is AMerica Junior. |

No I made a crack a Bush because he deserves it, but the point of the post was merely to discuss the politics of supreme courts around the globe. However I didn't expect the great babies of the globe to get so worked up, I didn't realize you guys were so insecure about your state. |
Canada is Americ Junior-that is indisutable. |

You wish, nothing seems to drive you crazier tha the fact that we have a cleaner, safer, more tolerant country than you. We can travel around the world without worrying about being shot, kidnapped, raped, etc just by wearing our flag and that drives you guys crazy. Just last year Yankees were putting our flag on their backpacks so that you guys wouldn't get harrassed. Enjoy Iraq. |

If Canada is sooooo great, then why are 9 out of 10 teachers here in Korea from Canada? Why do little kids come up and say "mi-guk-sa-ram" instead of "Ca-na-da-sa-ram?" Why is Canada making it national policy to beg people to move there?
Yeah, I guess Canada is great, as long as you don't live there. |

We come because we get 6 month tourist visa (unlike others) so we can come and make lots of money working part time. We come becasue we have tax treaties so that kids out of university can come here and pay 3% tax rather than 40% (because it is tough to pay that much staright out of university). We come because Canadians want to see the rest of the world and experience new cultures unlike others who don't even know what countries border them. We come because our country encourages us to go and experience life rather than getting married and squeezing out a few to protect our "race". We have an open, progressive society that wants us to explore and challenge ourselves rather than being boring and stale. |

No, you really didn't want to.
When everyone realized that, they asked you to. And what happened? You couldn't. |

Actaully i did and tried to have a discussion about whether or not the court should be progressive but all the crazy right-wing canadians (who supprt that perpetual loser Harper) and the in hiding Americans who are upset they are all always picked on started all this crazy talk, i'll have any discussion you want on the state of the court....
here goes...
The last 5 years of Canadian Supreme Court desicions have been fair, progressive and reinventive when it comes national policy. They have done liberal things (gay marriage) and conservative things (private health insurance, not supproting marijuana legalization) and then they have done things that I'm not sure of like ruling against Aboriginal logging rights. I am happy with the courts rullings and I think Canada is better for it.
How's that? |

As one of the Canadians who took issue with your comments on this thread, I would like to say that I am in fact left-wing, and have never voted for the Conservatives, Reform, or Alliance parties.
If you're going to engage in ad hominem, please get your facts straight.
All that said, your last few posts sound for all the world like someone doing a parody of an over-the-top Canadian nationalist. So any further attention to this thread is probably a waste of my time. |

I'm confused.
First we were told (a while back) that the Japanese prefer Canadian workers to American workers.
Next I heard that the Canadians "beat" the U.S. rescue teams to the disaster area in New Orleans, and, we were told, this is not surprising, as the Canadians were the only ones to accomplish their goals in the Normandy invasion, and that, therefore, Americans should take better care of their poor (as, presumably, the Canadians do), according to Mindmetoo.
Then I was lectured by Manner of Speaking that Canadians (and everyone else in the world) only take issue with American foreign policy, and, in his sermons on democracy and good government, I was told that governments exist to serve the people (as in, presumably, Canada) and not the other way around (as in America). Manner of Speaking was pretty clear in his assertions that Canadians like and indeed respect America -- it's just American foreign policy that they don't like.
Now were are hearing, in at least two more threads on this theme, that Canadian cities are more preferable to live in than U.S. cities, that Vancouver is rising to greatness (although Manner of Speaking assures us that Canadians don't care about "greatness"), and, on top of this, we also see a thread that alleges it intends to address the Canadian Supreme Court, but is really an attack on U.S. domestic politics (e.g., Affirmative Action, race relations, gender disparities, etc.), and, not much of a surprise here, we are told by Octavius that Canada is superior to the U.S. in these things.
Canadians say they don't dislike America, that some Americans here are just too hypersensitive and defensive...Mith tells me, much earlier, that the "Canada is morally superior to the U.S." theme is not really present on this board. But what are we to make of all of these threads? What, then, are Canadians trying to prove? |

Some Canadians. I think Mith is half-right. The morally superior hyper-nationalist crowd is not that big, but is pretty vocal. But look, TMkTM, Rutabaga, and OTOH all came out to disagree with Octavius. Of course, it's not like Octavius is being subtle here. Look at these gems of resentment:

Yes, On the Other Hand's posts are always very well-conceived and nicely articulated, and have little if anything to do with nationalism.
You're right: it is only some Canadians. I should have clarified that. |
