Seoul Named World's 25th Most Costly City
Seoul is the 25th most expensive city in the world, Swiss banking giant UBS said Monday. In a survey of the cost of living in 71 major cities around the world, the Norwegian capital Oslo topped the list for the second time since 2003. Among cities in the Asian-Pacific region, Sydney ranked 27th, Auckland 34th, Taiwan 36th, Singapore 39th, Shanghai 43rd, and Bangkok 60th.

Wan't there another survey a couple of days ago showing it to be the 4th most expensive or something?

25th sounds closer I think.

These expensive city lists are inconsistent, and not a decent measure really. The most up to date Mercer list puts Seoul at number 7. These lists don't apply to Joe Bloggs ESL teacher but are a guide for businesses who provide employees with expenses for overseas trips. For example, Merryl Lynch might send someone from its London office to attend to some business in Seoul. This chap will be staying at the shilla hotel, or the hotel located next to the COEX. He won't be eating at kimbap cheonguk, riding the subway, dealing with the riff raff ajumas at the sijang, or staying at a love hotel in Silim dong. For Joe Blow, my hometown in the East Midlands(UK) is more expenive than Seoul. The only exception might be a few properties in Apgujong, or Gangnam.

Do they just choose one city in each country to do this poll?

Must be 10 more expensive cities in Japan alone.. and in the U.S. another 10 or so.
