Can I use my credit card from my bank back home here in Korea? I tried once at an electronics store and they told me no. Just wondering how it works. Do I need to show my passport when I want to use it? I would really like to pick up some books at Kyobo bookstore this weekend but cash is low and I don't get paid until the end of the month.
Thanks

Never had any problems at all. Just hand it to 'em, they swipe, you PIN or sign - done.

Most places are fine with it, but a small little shop might not want to, since it's hard to deal with a foreign card (especially refunds and so forth), or they might not have the machine.

never had any problems with Amex or Visa. ATM machines are a bit more touch and go, but you develop a sixth sense for the ones that pay out

My visa works fine here. I have been using it for years. It might be be accepted in the smaller stores however. But, in the big Department stores...it work well.

My Visa card, connected to my lil' old NZ bank card has worked every time, though I have pretty much limited it to bookstores, music stores, restaurants and department stores. Which, come to think of it, is all you need.

Call the 1-800 number on the back and have your card approved for use in Asia. Some card companies will cease transactions when a card is used outside of its usual area in case it has been stolen.

A lot of electronics shops don't like to take credit cards anyway, and if they do they may charge slightly more for the item. It's got something to do with paying taxes, I think.
