no personal offence taken.
while a thumping plot does have its place in literature (i like orwell, hardy, etc.), i just get more out of portraitists. and as chomsky - if he carries any credibility on this board - has said, literature will tell us more about people's minds than science ever will.
similarly i intend no personal criticism when i say that o henry is really a show-off and a one-trick pony. |

I forget the name of the story, but it was Stephen King, the story was about a teletransporter machine. You have to keep your eyes closed while transporting. One boy didn't, and there is sort of a surprise ending. |

He writes short stories? My experience with him has been both fascinating ("The Corrections") and dull ("How to Be Alone.) |
His "How to be alone" was the short story book! Well it's more like a collection of essays but I thought that it was great. Then again I'm a big fan of his. Malcom Gladwell is another great writer but I don't think that he wrote any shory stories. Again he wrote a lot of essays for the New York Times, some which are in his books. Check him out |
