so i bought a used Toshiba Portege 4000 for $400, I'm not sure if I got ripped off yet or not... it has XP on it, but SP1 and some of the Fn keys like "screen dim" and all that jazz seem not to work...
i have a newer Dell laptop in my apartment which serves as my desktop replacement i bought the Portege for portability and cheapness, not power... all i really plan on using it for is Audiomulch inbetween classes and reading PDFs...
eventually i want to install one of Samsung's solid state HDs on it and a 2nd battery... so has anyone heard anymore about the flash HDs? will they be compatible with a P3 notebook?
the thing kinda smells "hot" after a few minutes of running also, i wonder if the battery is fragged or on the way to being fragged... if that is the case, can i replace it with a standard battery... or do i have to pay uber-cash for some older model Toshiba battery... since portability is the goal of the machine i will probably replace the DVD drive with an additional battery...
it went from a full charge, displaying 3 hours of battery life and couldn't finish playing a CD... bad battery? it's supposed to have excellent powersaving features but i have yet to see them... just using it for casual audio applications the battery life seems true to what the meter reads...
i also want to upgrade the RAM, it's supposed to top out at 1GB, will any RAM do?
thanks for any advice... |
