Surprised

Third time lucky off to korea this week, however this time I have my E2 visa BEFORE i go. bit scared as last time (actually twice) i have gone on a tourist visa and run away from the school before i signed any contract.

Am i the only one who has done this. honestly i had good cause. one director kept coming to my apart and loooking in the windows. another shouted at me so loudly in class in front of the kids ( she did it with all the teachers) i would go home deaf- also i was advised to disapear before i got stuck she was a mean old wart hog. The school also had a terrible reputation i found out afterwards abd no agency would deal with her.

Anyway with the help of another foreign teacher, i escaped after dark. the next day she was fuming i was told, but I did what i had to.

From what i gather, the school who provides the Sponsership of the E2 visa basically owns you for a year, Thank goodness I didn`t get my E2 visa before i went last time.
This time I have delt directly with the director rather than going through an agency and she seems fine. I also spoke with the foreign teacher already there and I was pretty convinced this school was better.

Just remember they own your visa NOT you, if you are ever in a position where you feel like you are being treated unfairly or abused you can leave anytime you want to, never stay in a job where you treated badly.

Lots of people run.

Good luck with your new job Cool

Ulsan's alright, I've just been here for two months. There are some other foreigners, but they can be rare, depneding on what district you live in. You'll be able to meet others and make friends, though. I still get stared at and pointed at absolutely everywhere I go, which doesn't happen when I go to Busan (a 45min, $2 bus ride away). The city is dense though so it's convenient. Where in Ulsan are you going to be?

You've never heard of Ulsan???? Have you ever heard of Hyundai, you know the car manufacture and ship builder? "The city [Ulsan] forms the heart of the country's industrial area called Ulsan Industrial District - the multinational Hyundai corporation has its base here." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulsan

What exactly do you mean by "the Norks?" What are you talking about?
