What are the specs of the system?

Most people use Zonealarm. www.zonelabs.com I think.

Try here:

I use the Sygate Tiny Personal Firewall. It's great!

yes, and you could also get a router that acts as a firewall. So in other words a hardware firewall.

Also, is this the only computer on the network? I mean do you only have this computer connected to the computer? In that case just get ZoneAlarm.

What are the specs of the system?

Zonealarm is quite excellent but I hate when they do an update and there's a huge "are you SURE you don't want to buy the pro version?" thing you have to click thru.

If you are going to buy a router which I strongly suggest if you will have multiple PC's running is NETGEAR. You can upgrade the firware with english to make life easier.

When it comes to firewall, AV, and anti-spyware software, I am one for dishing out the money needed to get the best software for my computer. Go for a paid bundle BUT, avoid Norton.

That all depends on if you have a network with many computers or not.

If you are the only computer on the network, ie connected directly to the modem then sure, you can buy software. But personally I still prefer a hardware solution.
