Back in Vancouver, the chatboard I frequented most often has a 'Fashionista' forum ( http://www.clubvibes.com/forum/forum.asp?forum_id=32&city=1 ).
Despite the name, it's quite an all-encompassing forum, used to discuss topics on fashion, health and beauty. Everything from 'Is creatine a safe bodybuilding supplement?' to 'How to combat dandruff?' and 'What trends annoy you most?' are discussed.
Now that I'm in Korea, I'm craving a Korean Fashionista forum. (Message to Dave: Can we have a Fashionista Forum? Pretty please? ) The selection of health and beauty products here baffles me, and I'm sure there's other people on this board wondering where they can find certain products.
As well, there are some great clothing stores, department stores and markets out here begging to be discussed!
Some of the questions / topics I have are:
-Where can I find toothpaste for sensitive teeth?
-Why is girl's shaving cream so hard to find here?
-Where is your favorite place to shop in Seoul?
-Where can I find 'western' cough syrup (like Buckley's) with DM in it?
-Do they have popular western makeup like 'revlon new complexion one-step compact makeup' here or will I have to order that from home?
-Why is it forbidden to drink the tap water?

Dunno, but you can get it at Olive Young and Missha. |

Maybe try some of the grey market stores.

Because it's not very common for women to shave their legs.

I'm not giving that away.... for risk that I'll see an army of western women wearing my clothes.

Try the big department stores. Also get them to put it on your face. A 'beauty counter makeover' is one of my favorite things about living in Korea.

because you'll get sick. But remember to get regular trips to the dentist for flouride treatments since you aren't going to be getting as much flouride as back home. |

a variety of deodorants, shaving creams, toothpastes, body washes etc. can be found at grey market shops. I know I saw a few of these shops in Daegu.
you can also try carrefour for things like that because they tend to stock more western products than other stores.
the tapwater is fine to drink however Koreans are very choosy about their water and think that all tap water (regardless is not good drinking water) so they always have water machines. I wouldn't regularly drink the tap water here though. They won't drink tap water in North America or Europe either. |

The yakkuk on hooker hill behind the firestation. She's got everything - Diflucan, birth control pills, Nizoral.... nothing embarasses this woman. Closed Sundays.

I stock up on Guafenisn syrup (expectorant) in Canada. Never seen it here.
If they have the style of foundation you want, they probably don't have the colours. There's a shop that carries L'Oreal products in Myeong Dong (first main alley after the Avatar building) but a very minimal selection - look for the gigantic nailpolish bar in the entrance.
I'd just bite the bullet and develop a favorite at Lancome or Clinique - pricey, but guaranteed to be available everywhere.
Water, boil it or buy it. I don't want to be a guinea pig trying to tell Koreans that my gut is less succeptible to parasites than theirs are. [/quote] |

| Misha is my favourite store to buy from, tons of good stuff at low prices (and yes, stuff for gys too). As far as the water, I've been drinking it for a year with no problem, Koreans are overly paranoid and pass that fear to foriegners (fan death anyone?) |

| of all the korean brand makeup, palgantong is the best imo, not sure what your complexion looks like but if you range from very fair to medium, you might find a close match |
