For Once, Koreans Have Something to Be Proud Of
The Chinese media posted articles on October 7 saying that the Chinese should learn environmental conservation and public morality from the Koreans... "What Can We Learn from the Korean Tourists?" the government-managed Xinhua News Agency praised the Koreans, stating, "They made us realize that we should all become more environmentally conscious and care about public etiquette, and that we should improve the level of public resource management."
... quoting a Korean tourist who mentioned that Koreans learn to protect the environment at an early age at home and at school.

I don't doubt for a second that Korea's environmental policy is superior to China's. But I do wish they would quit littering and implement stricter clean air standards.

| I'm confused. Is this a Korea in some parallel universe? |

| It's the Korea you see advertised on TV. Once you get here you then want to sue for false advertising. |

| Now if only they would pick up their trash and puke in Hong Dae, then they would have something to REALLY brag about! |

Still, restoring that stream that runs through Seoul is a step in the right direction. They say they're studying the feasability of uncovering and restoring the other 54 streams in Seoul that have been concreted over.
I guess you have to give credit where it's due... |

Korean writer. Hmm... here are the plausible scenarios:
1. The writer didn't properly translate what the Chinese person said.
2. The Chinese person was simply being polite.
3. The Chinese person is stupidly gullible and thinks a Korean will view Korea the same way as everybody else.
4. Everything is true, except to a western reader, serial littering and paving over every possible square inch in a city aren't considered good environmental stewardship practices.
Regardless, it's very funny! |
