Before I start I'd like to say that I like animals, and I even like cats, but I have been haing cat problems lately.

In the last neighbourhood I lived in, I had a problem wit a cat that annoyed the hell out of me. I couldn't really do anything about it because it was the landlord's cat, so I had to tolerate it.

I recently moved to a new neighbourhood, and now I have another cat problem. I couldn't believe it. Two neighbourhoods in a row. The cats even look similar. I think it followed me. What luck.

Anyway, this cat is wandering around where I live now and leaving little cat droppings all over the place. It also makes a lot of noise. The neighbourhood is pretty lively to begin with, but this cat's noise just cuts staright through the rest of the din and it is driving me nuts. With the little cat turds all over the place, plus the incessent, pointless mewling, I am at wits end. I don't know if it's in heat and can't hook up or what...I just wish the thing would shut up and go away.

I can't kill the thing (though some days I wish I could), so I need some advice on how to get rid of an unwanted cat. Does anyone know of any good, non-lethal (for now) deterents? I could spray it with a hose, but I don't really want to be on 24-hour cat duty either. Any tips would be appreciated.

Cats are generally pretty quiet unless they're in heat, wait a couple of weeks.

Weeks? Aw man...

I hope this cat gets some action soon. But I am not sure about that. It's a pretty, well, unattractive cat...as far as cats go. The only way this tom is going to get any is if it slips a large dose of catnip into some unsuspecting feline's water dish.

We used to have problem cats that would poo on our front lawn... so my mum stuck orange wedges around the place and that kept them at bay (they hate oranges) but I dont' know what can stop the incessant mewing. I think Pep's right, she's in heat and will shut up when she's laid Smile and/or when it passes...

Well, this cat is a male...What if I spayed it? I must have a sharp knife around here somewhere...

I heard red pepper powder is good too.

I remember reading before that cats hate vinegar and lemons. I know the lemon part is true but I never tried out vinegar myself because I can't stand the stuff.

But! Check out what I found:

Quote:
Top 10 Cat Repellants
So you're not exactly a cat lover, or you like them, but not in your garden. Is your neighbor's cat using your rose beds as his own personal litter box? Do you feel as if you can't talk it over with your neighbor? There are steps you can take to discourage his visits while keeping the peace with your neighbors. A combination of these will work to cat-proof almost any garden.

10. Cayenne Pepper
Sprinkle it around the soil where the cat walks. It's intensely unpleasant, but not harmful.

9. Vinegar
Spray a vinegar-water solution around the base of your acid-loving plants.

8. Orange Peels
Save those citrus peels and sprinkle them around shrubs and plants. Cats hate the scent of citrus as much as vinegar. To make the peels go further, grind them in a blender to release the citrus oils and mix with water.

7. Moth Balls
Another scent deterrent, but please, place them inside a covered can with a few holes poked in it. They can be toxic if ingested, and you just want to discourage kitty visitors, not harm them.

6. Rock Garden
If you want a low-maintenance yard, use rough-surfaced rocks as a ground cover. Guaranteed to keep tender pads well away.

5. Roses
Join the Rose Society and fill your garden with beautiful roses, particularly the thorny kind. (Be sure to wear gloves when tending them.)

4. Commercial Repellants
The sidebar contains links to a couple of companies that sell repellants. Most will need to be re-applied regularly for maximum benefit.

3. Barking Dog
If you don't have (or want) a dog, record one barking, and play it loudly when you see Tom heading your way. This will require persistence on your part, but eventually Tom will get the message.

2. The Water Trick
This device is ingenious! It connects to a garden hose and uses a motion sensor to spray water when an animal is detected.

1. Be a Gracious Host!
Find a corner in the back of your yard where you can put an outdoor litter box. It doesn't need to be large or elaborate. (See page one of this article for details). Once Tom discovers his litter box, he'll stay away from the rest of your yard.

Not the easiest solutions I suppose but HTH.

Well, I suppose I could try some of those.

I just want the cat to stay at his house, and not bother me in mine.

you can always buy this product. Looks like it may be a winner for your cat problem. I have a cat outside my window that meows constantly. I know how annoying it can be. At least you don't have the neighbors making out at all hours of the night. Good Luck!

Well, this is one persistent cat.

I have tried all of the advice here and no luck. The thing is still skulking about, leaving little cat turds all over the place. Did I mention the pointless, inane mewling? No one wants to listen to that.

A few of my neighbours are unflappable and wouldn't mind a bellowing elephant living next door. ON eof them even feeds it now and then to make it feel welcome. Most of them, however, are of the same mind as me. This cat has got to go.

I was thinking of sitting down and writing an alegorical story about an irritating person that followed me from place to place. It would be a story about the kind of person that just drives you nuts. Remember the hall monitors in high school? The ones that would rat you out to the teachers for being late, then try to hang out with you, in the hopes of beiong your buddy, in the smoking area behind the portables after school? That's the kind of person I am thinking of. That guy usually got the crap kicked out of him at some point. Do you think if I should sit down with this cat and tell it my story? Do you think that it would get the hint, or do you think it would go right over the cats head? Cats are supposed to be pretty clever, but thisone hasn't impressed me at all.

I am out of ideas.

This cat is IN your house? I'm confused.

My cats (two gigantic brothers) used to call for food all the time. Sure they were "big-boned" but we were trying to trim their girth a little, so food wasn't always available. However, their hungry hollering drove us crazy.

On top of that, they just liked to hear themselves talk. They especially liked the acoustics in the bathroom. The bigger one (11 kg) would leap in there and yodel away.

Naw...it's not in my house. It's in my neighbourhood.
