NHL 2006 is coming out this weekend for PS2 and Xbox. Please proceed to your nearest Yongsan shop and make your purchase. That's right boys and girls hockey is back. Unfortunatly for us Canadians and the few Americans who are fans of the game here in Korea we are unable to follow our teams. Therefore, we must rely on the next best options: the internet for our updates and NHL 2006 for our cravings. Enough talkin... drop the Frikin puck. Go Leafs Go!

Speaking of fixes in hockey-deprived Korea...

Does anyone know of any decent NHL podcasts that have started or will start?

I've done a couple searches, but most look pretty useless (for now)... I know the Hawks and the Caps have team podcasts, but my Oilers don't... Even anything general to the league would do... Game commentary would be GREAT, but I may be getting my hopes up.

I don't have a link or anything like that, I have a guy in Yongsan who I always buy my PS2 games from and told me that the game will be out this weekend. I saw him last weekend. I will be calling him tomorrow to make sure he can get it for me and then i will go to Yongsan. I can keep you guys posted.

With regards to NHL podcasts I don't know what the other teams offer but I know that the leafs have Leafs TV and that provides leaf fans with a number of A/V options for staying updated on the leafs. The only problem is that they don't have the games in the internet, but I guess life would have been too good then.

What the hell?

I've been to Yongsan thrice since NHL 06 came out, and have yet to find the game? Still hasn't come out, they all say...

Anyone know of a particular stall in Yongsan that DOES have it?

I'm getting impatient, so I guess I could just order a legit copy from home~

I didn't want to deal with a Korean menue, etc. so I ordered mine from Easports.com and got it shipped to my parents house in Canada for $39.99 U.S. free shipping. They are in turn mailing it to me and so I'll have a legitimate copy in my hand sometime next week. Until then I've been playing the version I downloaded and it's been great, I highly recommend it. We should start an online league when more people get it so we could each get our own teams and play each other over a regular season, 29 games I think is the short one. Let's make it happen!

sorry, I just got back from Japan so I haven't had a chance to go to yongsan and pick up the game. I have the phone number of the guy I deal with at home so as soon as I get home today I will call him and see what the deal with it is and I will let you guys know. If its there we can hook up and go there together.

As for the the online league you are suggesting i think it would be a great idea. we should actually play 29 game season and make an agreed upon day of the week and time of day as hockey night in Korea. Actually we should get a hockey pool going. It would be 20,000 per person for the pot and we would have to meet someday before the season starts and have the draft. if we can get 5 people together that 100k at the end of the season.

Is there any way to watch games on cable or satellite in Korea? TSN? OLN?

When everyone gets an official copy of the game (needed to play online) let's definitely get a season started then. PM me if you're interested and when you get the actual game PM to let me know, then we can set up an online league. We would have to agree on who gets what teams as I don't believe you can do a an online draft with NHL 2006.

As for a hockey pool the easiest way is going through yahoo.com under the fantasy games/ hockey section. It does all the stats, auto drafts or live drafts are possible. I've started a 12 team one already actually and the draft has already happened. I believe you can still register your league if you want to get in on it. Of course your idea to meet and have someone collect 20 000won sounds fine, it simply would take some organization is all, and to decide who would be the treasurer.

By the way, I don't think it is possible to get a satellite that will access OLN or TSN, etc. All the satellite services I've seen over here are simply your standard Sky sports, etc. However on base getting one might be possible, but then you'd need someone who had access and could put it in the their name, etc. probably near impossible. Which pisses me off because back at my parents home we had a satellite dish and you could access many different satellites, etc. so I don't understand the dishes over here only able to offer 50-60 channels. Sounds like B.S. to me...

what is a gravis/playstation style controller for NHL 2006?

i used to play NHL 98 on my first system. i used a gravis game pad. hockey with a keyboard is wacker than... uh... watching hockey.

Hmm, haven't seen gravis around for awhile but I just picked up a Logitech Rumblepad for 45000 won I think. It works fine for NHL 2006 and any day now my legit copy will be here!

On another note www.streamtvnow.com (if you can register) is streaming all the Hockey Night in Canada double headers. I watched the Toronto-Montreal game and the Edmonton-Vancouver game and it was fine.

And there was a guy or two checking out setting up a satellite dish from Japan and trying to get reception of their games along the east coast of Korea (I'm off the southeast coast). Any luck?
