AH.. I was going to post something about this.

If you are a current KOTESOL member (for at least 12 months) and are bring new people (2 or more) to the conference who sign up as members (pre-reg. or onsite reg.), you can enter our prize draw. Prizes include a laptop/notebook computer, free kotesol memberships (2 years membership, worth 75,000 won), reimbursement of Conference admission, outback steak out full course dinner coupons, optical wheel mouse etc...

Very Happy

This sounded really exciting until I realized that my membership was finally processed last November, so that makes only 11 months.

The prizes seem nice, but I think with the relatively high turnover in Korea (and probably KOTESOL, too), they're geared at the "senior" members (such as those who came up with this contest?? Twisted Evil ) I would imagine the odds are very good for anyone who qualifies.

It would help the contest in the new members also qualified for some sort of prize. A prize draw for renewing membership would help me remember to bring next year's dues, too.

Sorry to sound cynical, but I guess I won't be trying to convince my grandmother-in-law to join until next year when I qualify for the big prizes.

Have you got a membership card? What does it say on it?

If you joined at last year's conference, you should be eligible.

The card says November.

Oh, well, I'll come by my lonesome self this year, and I'll be paying for my own ribs at Outback.

Great...I didn't know that I couldn't transfer money via ATM, which is what I did to renew my membership.

I better not get a whisper of hassle at the door, as I am indeed a member, and have no intention of paying a non-member price. (I got my last membership card 10 MONTHS after joining last year, so I can imagine it will take forever for them to get things straighted out now.) Grump.

Mumblebee, good news.

ATM IS accepted, so you should be ok at the door.

The reason why you didn't get your membership card until recently is because we never had membership cards until now - it is an initiative that Dr. Yeum started and obviously it is receiving good reviews!

I will be floating around doing a questionnaire with some students on Saturday morning (sans Letty though, since it will be too early for her Wink), so if you give me your name in PM, I can go get it checked out at registration for you.

HTH.

Is the conference good for meeting potential employers, or only more for the seminars and presentations?

There is an employment centre for tertiary education institutes - i.e. Universities or Government related agencies.

Normally there are around 10 employers there looking for new recruits.

I only made it for the afternoon session and met a friend who was presenting. He showed me to teh registration tables and told me to get teh mug but they were all out by the time I got there. The presentations I caught were really good in some cases, some had technical problems and one guy was jsut way too simple but all in all it was great to meet up with alot of people from my past.
