I am planning to take the plunge next year. I was wondering about something.
My wife and I will get married and then she will be entitled to EU citizenship after a certain length of time. This has been discussed before here of course.
However my question is this. Is it then possible to hold two passports?
I know Korea doesn't allow dual nationality but how will immigration find out if we don't tell them? Is it just a case of using her Korean passport when leaving Europe and when arriving in Korea for visits?
Has anyone tried/heard of this? |

Can't be done. You'll see.
At some point in the citizenship process the Korean embassy will be involved.

I would prefer not to see when I arrive. Do you know someone who tried it? What would you expect to happen? |

So Robert Kim has only a US passport and could be refused entry on arrival? |

Yes, I should have said 'in my experience' it can't be done, and technically (i.e. if one follows the rules) it can't be done; But of course it seems that the rules vary according to the whims of embassy you deal with.
As for Robert Kim, no he doesn't hold dual citizenship but does anyone think he'll have a problem entering Korea and/or changing his citizenship to Korean? If so please contact me immediately- I have an excellent real estate opportunity in S. Florida that you do not want to miss out on. |

Yes. Korea simply doesn't recognize a person's second citizenship.
For example, if she was arrested for a crime here they wouldn't eventually notify the government of her other nationality like they would if a foreigner was arrested. Same time, if there were rules on behavior abroad (prostitution or travel restrictions, for example) that were legal under the rules of the second citizenship, that would not be considered a valid reason if she entered that country under the other passport.
They don't revoke citizenship upon gaining a foreign passport, though they will not grant citizenship to a person moving to Korea until proof has been given that their old citizenship will cease to be upon them gaining Korean citizenship. |

my understanding is that she will not be able to start a business or own land if she has citizenship of another country. |

King of Disco-- does the photographer who took the photo you are using as an avatar (without credit) know that you are doing so? You should at least credit people when you steal their work. |

I have a friend who became a kiwi citizen but didn't tell the Korean government (she wants to keep her citizenship number or something to use online communities). I guess if Korean immigration looks at your passport and notices you have entry/exit stamps for Korea but no entry/exit stamps for other countries, they'll eventually clue in you don't get on a plane, fly around in a circle over the pacific, and then come back... |
