Anybody else seen the ad on the back of todays korean herald? Its been on the back in some previous editions but I've never actually taken the time to read it.....

Who the hell writes this shit??

The korean language has the best alphabet all languages have dreamt of. Hangul rated first for creativity. "designing the most superior letters among all nations"

The ad then goes on to describe how korea basically pionered CDMA, semi-conductor and land going sea-vessel technologies.... which proves that koreans have "rare talents of creativity and originality" enabling them to face the new era with confidence....

Come on..... even kimchi is a copied design......

Its an ad for samsung electronics.... considered in australia to be the cheaper crappier version of the japanese sony...

In fairness hangul is pretty brilliant. How long does it take to learn hangul vs. the roman alphabet?

Yeah, I'll give 'em Hangul.

Koreans are unquestionably the best at adopting new scientific alphabets and at industrial espionage.

how is kimchi a copied design, evil penguin? i'd really like to know...all i am aware of is red peppers where brought here by the portuguese in the 1500's...

and that ad is racist and dispicable. the whole country seems to suffer from little man syndrome and is constantly trying to remind themselves just how awesome and superior they and their culture are. you know..successful countries don't need to do that, as RESULTS supercede propaganda.

The original fermented cabbage and crap was done according to a chinese recipe. the introduction of the peppers allowed an improvisation to be be done... but by no means was the design a purely korean thing... Kinda like if we australians claimed to have invented the meat pie. Or vegemite for that matter. We didn't... but both have become part of ourt culture. thats okay, we embrace our multicultural roots and so on. Were it not for a foreign intervention (portuguese), korean food would be vastly different. And were it not for the chinese.... well... the koreans proabbly would have been going pretty hungry and malnorished during the winter months...

And as for the korean alphabet... yeah its pretty cool. Easy to understand. Good thinking by one smart man. But it certainly does have its limitations... Not being able to join constanants is one........ Not being able to end in a consonant is another..... Overall I'm not that impressed. And Japanese, chinese and especially arabic look so much cooler......

so i have another question...why do you think it is that americans can admit or accept that the hamburger was started by the mogolians and perfected by the germans, or that aussies understand that vegemite and meat pies are not solely their creation...these are just as big a staple for our countries and societies than kimchi is for the koreans. why can't the koreans accept history or even have opposiong theories? why the metaphysical attachment to fermented cabbage? why is a culture that says to be so into education and history and tradition so hypocrital when it comes to their own introspection?

The invention of the rain gauge in Korea came two hundred years before inventor Christopher Wren created a rain gauge.

Joseon culture created the first Korean Tea Ceremony, Korean Gardens, and extensive encyclopaedias.

Many Korean inventions are from this period, such as the first Asian sundial and the world's first water-powered clock. During the Joseon period, the metal printing press, invented during the Goryeo dynasty in 1232 AD, supplanted the wood-block printing press in China

I love it that Koreans feel the need to claim raw fish as their own "inventions" over the Japanese.

You know, before fire, I'll bet there was quite a bit of raw fish eating.
