|
|
Our girls' high school was invaded by the first Burberry man (Flasher) of the new Spring.
He appeared during lunch, but I was at my desk and didn't realize what the commotion was all about. The Principal flew into our office and started barking commands to someone out the window. I just thought she was yelling at some students who were too loud (not uncommon). Turns out, she was yelling at a teacher to chase the guy down or something.
The dude got away -- beating a hasty retreat (beating... hahahaha) up the hill. Wish I would have been outside. My goal is to catch one of these guys this year.
For those of you who haven't seen it, our students did a news story on this last Fall:

This is an old post, but I just noticed it and I have to say we had one at my old girls highs school as well.
I remember the first time the girls told me about it. A bunch of the 2nd graders were chatting away in my class about somebody named "Adam". As they were blathering on after the bell, which was bizarre at that school, I asked them what they were on about.
"Adam was in the bathroom," one said.
"Eh?" I thought to myself.
"Adammm! He was there again." Much giggling.
"Who the heck is Adam?" I asked. More giggling.
"You don't know Adam...? He is a special man" Intense giggling.
Of course the reason I wasn't cottoning on was that the girls were so nonchalant about the whole thing. Finally I straightened out that "Adam" was the nickname of the flasher that hung out behind the girls bathroom, and had been doing so for years. I finally got it when one of the girls who had lived abroad for quite some time told me that Adam showed them his "special package"...Ah, youth.
What was most unsettling, however was a comination of three things:
1. The school teachers were well aware of Adam, and did nothing about it even though he had been doing this for years.
2. The girls seemed to regard this as normal, said it was common in Korea and treated Adam almost as a mascot.
3. Everyone(Korean staff and teachers, the foreign staff was just as freaked as I) was shocked when I suggested that Adam might not stay on his voluntary leash forever. One teacher told me I was being silly.
How did it end? One day one of our third graders was grabbed by a naked old adjasshi, that's how it ended. Then the police were called after the girl went home bawling and her parents got on the phone. Daft bastards. When I told the same teacher who called me silly that it could have been prevented, she asked: "How?"
Oh, sometimes it's great and sometimes... |

There's a stream with a very high, steep embankment running along behind my girls high school on the side facing the washrooms. I know where any burberry man is going end up should I find one there. |

And Derrek, what kind of file is that? I wasn't able to open it.
Any possibilty of you cutting and pasting it into something more accessible and sending it my way?
Cheers. |

I couldn't get it to work, but I back-traced half of the link, and found the root-site with other videos too. It's at www.seoulstream.com . After clicking around in the video section, I found the flasher video you're talking about under a student news video. It worked when I clicked it a few moments ago. |

Man, those are outstanding production values for a high school newscast - or any newscast for that matter. I'm guessing that Derrek doesn't post here anymore (going by what other folks have said), but if you had a hand in helping those kids - I salute you! |

Saw him two weeks ago - he's still doing all right ... should be in Thailand for a short trip, actually. He does seem to be rather better at making friends and not making enemies in real life than on the Internet, lol. |

Why is a flasher a "Burberry man"? Does it have something to do with the fact that they wear trench coats? |

Derrek and his various socks were banned, so by TOS rules talk about him is discouraged.
A nice enough guy in real life and a great teacher, he just had a few problems with his online persona.
*edit*

Quinella, I caught that one too.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't remember Derrek making any off-color comments about sex and his students. Others commenting to his threads did from time-to-time. Oh, there was that time he posted pics of his student who won some model contest, but they weren't anything out-of-line that I can remember. Now his antagonizing of the mods I do remember. Not cool, and perhaps why TOS rules are thrown out within a breath after his name is mentioned on here. His banning was deserved, IMHO.
By the way, JackTheCat, aren't you the one who has had a brush with the law, who accused you of innappropriate activity with your students? I like you Jack, and I think you're a good mod, but if you're going to post sexually accusatory comments, without backing of quotes, from a position of authority, about an individual who cannot defend himself, it would look a lot better not to have posts like this on your record:

Let me highlight a quote of yours:

Today I meet some of my students for a graduation\going away get together at a local fruit ice shoppe. Yeah, yeah, I know it wasn't the smartest idea, given the current atmosphere, but they had just graduated middle school last week and gotten into the best girls high school in Incheon and I am going to be leaving Incheon soon, so wanted to congratulate them and say goodbye. And I am 31, too old to think of teenage girls as any more than just students.
Unfortunately, I guess some concerned citizen saw the waegukin out with Korean girls and called the cops, as the next thing I knew I was surrounded by some very angry police officers, calling me beyontae seki and other not so nice Korean words.' |
