Bwa ha ha RealReality. I can't believe I beat you to this, though you may be posting it as we speak, so I will quit gloating and cut to the chase.

You have to remember that 99.9% of foreigners married to Koreans are mail order brides from China and the Philippines, not whities.

Quote:
The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI) reported that 52 percent of foreign nationals married to Koreans have no intention of marrying a Korean again if they were given a second chance.

The report is based on a survey of 100 foreign spouses living here in South Korea or abroad.

About 80 percent of the female respondents said they would not marry a Korean man for a second time, while 58 percent of males said they would marry a Korean woman again.

Fifty-two of the 100 foreign nationals who participated in the poll were men and 48 were women. Around 60 percent of them were in their 20s and 30s

Am I just having a particularly dense moment? I can't figure out these numbers. If 80% of the women don't want to marry Koreans again, and 42% of the men don't want to marry Koreans again, how does that average out to 52%? I figured 60.24% I'm really baffled by this. What am I not seeing?

However I did see this in response to Jack's comment:

Quote:
About 40 percent of the respondents came from European countries, followed by 30 percent from Asian countries and 20 percent from North America

I just finished divorcing my wife here. I don't care if the
next one is Korean or not as long as she is Asian. I Think
I'll look for some hyper-rich, lonely, Japanese ajuma.

So, it's fine to have a 'thing' for Northern European women, but it's a 'fetish' to have a preference for Hispanic women?

The last sentence (almost an afterthought) seems puzzling to me:
Quote:
However, 43 percent of the couples said their children speak Korean.

I wonder why that would be. All the children of Korean/Westerner couples I know in Korea - and I know quite a few - speak much better Korean than English.

There's a big difference. Being attracted to a certain kind of person is one thing. Saying "I don't care if the next one is Korean or not as long as she is Asian." is, well, pretty f**kin' creepy.

I can't imagine for the life of me why homeboy's first marriage failed. I'd toss a few bucks to a bookie that his second and third marriages will fail just as fast.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. However, I was responding to the other poster who seemed to think that a preference for blondes was normal, whereas a preference for latinas was a bit creepy.

Sorry, I think I misread your post, it was a bit confusing.

So, you are actually saying that dating exclusively one 'type', be that Scandinavian, Asian or Hispanic, is a bit strange?

How can 100 be representative of the whole foreign community here?

This number just seems too low to me...

I wonder if foreigners who get divorced from one Korean and then think about marrying another one might be worried about how they'll be regarded and treated by their second (prospective) Korean spouse's inlaws, friends and society. Two strikes against them: foreign and "damaged". ("Is very much not Korea custom, Guru".)
