Hi, my name is Alec. I just got a job offer from Kimpo SLP Institute. But I can't find much information about that school from the internet. I asked my recruiter for reference, all he said was "you ask your friends who had experience in Korea and easily find reputaion of SLP schools throughout Korea." I really don't know whether I should believe him or not, cause I don't know anyone from Korea. Also they pay me 1.75 Million won,
21-80mins classes, Mon-Sat, 2.5 hours stay each day for preparation. Is the salary relatively low (I have no experience in ESL Teaching)? What are my chances to get the job if I ask him if I can only work Mon-Fri?

Please give me some advice, thank you.

Alec

If this puts it into perspective.... SLP is often joked about as having another meaning: Slave Labor Program.

Whenever I talk to a recruiter, and they won't tell me the name of the school, I ask if it's an SLP or a Wonderland. I will not work for either of these chain schools. I don't care what teachers they have that I can call for comments. I have seen too many bad comments in the past 2 years.

We had an SLP school near my former job in Koowi-dong. I talked to some of the teachers there. It was a revolving door -- people came and went every 3 or 4 months. They all hated it. The Kangnam branch could be different, but I've heard too many bad things about the SLP name to ever work for one.

Another thing -- why would you EVER agree to work Saturdays? Most jobs don't have that any more. If you wanted to make extra cash, then fine, but I still ask... why?

The salary is on the lower end. You should get about 2.0 minimum these days.
