I'm going to be leaving my current school only half way through my contract, and while my boss says he'll give me a release letter, I don't entirely trust him to produce the goods without a fight. (A general lack of trust being one of the reasons I want to leave!)
My question is, what exactly is a letter of release? Do I need an actual letter in my hand, and if so what should it say? Is it just a case of my boss talking to immigration, or is it a matter between my current school and perspective new school?
I really want to make sure my back is covered here, so any info/advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers!

See my happy-happy hogwan post. Don't trust your boss, and have a back-up plan to get nasty if you have to. I have no idea why, if it's clear you're going to quit no matter what, they can't just sign a simple form. But it really seems to bother them - I think it's the precedent it sets.

At any rate, a LOR is a piece of signed paper that gets your visa cancelled. EFL-law has one you can print out, though I have been reliably informed that their Korean translation is a bit ambiguous and problematic.

This is what I used which I got from efl-law and had saved it on my computer. I just filled in the information and had my school sign and stamp both.
