The newspaper says there has been frost in the mountains, so winter is coming. That means sooner or later 'they' will turn on the heaters at school/hakwon...and open doors and windows. In time-honored fashion, someone will come on Dave's and rant about how cold the classrooms are and that someone keeps opening the windows and/or door.

This year's crop of newbies seem a good bunch, overall. However, I have to question just how tough they are.

Question: For the seasoned vets here: In which week of which month do you think the first rant (about windows) will appear?

First week of November
Second week of November
etc.

No, the newbies are a tough, hearty bunch. They'll hold out till the second week of January.

What? They open the door and windows? Why?

My students are always trying to close the windows complaining its too cold. Well in spring, winter and fall anyway. I've never experienced the opposite.

Mr. fidel,

You are a man of singular experience then. Many, many have come to this board almost in tears at the horrors of working in a heated room but with the windows open. It's parallel to the complaint in the summer when the air con is on, but the windows are open.

It's my suspicion that there is a connection to fan death syndrome.

Note: I forgot to include my prediction: I say that the first complaint will come in the second week of December.

Always had the opposite problem to the OP. I'm the one who always wants to open the windows to let some fresh air in..... Nothing more unbearable than being stuck in an overheated unventilated room with a bunch of students... who are all bundled up in jackets and scarves and what-not while I'm sweating in short sleeves....

Hasn't started here yet (cold weather not yet fully arrived) but i remmeber not even being able to comfortably sit in even the staff room without scorching my lungs from the rooom temperature. Korean climate control seems to work only on extreme settings.... maximum cold or maximum hot.

Also remember last year students complaining that they'd get colds if the outside air was allowed to circulate the classroom....
