I wish to whine.

It's about 16 degrees outside. It's about 16 degrees inside. The librarian came in this morning and said "It's cold", whilst wearing her jacket. She then opened all the damn windows. All 3 people here (apart from me) are wearing jackets and look uncomfortable. I wonder what would happen if I closed the windows..

I think I'll go hide in my office and turn the heater on instead and respect the 'cultural difference'.

It's my suspicion that there is a connection to fan death syndrome.

In a roundabout way, the old style of ondol had the odd habit of leaking poisonous gas into the house from time to time, thus Koreans have been ingrained over generations to constantly allow airflow and to not build airtight dwellings (remember that the next time you lie in bed in your old villa and curse your loose windows as they rattle in the frigid Mongolian gusts).
But of course I know that Ya-ta- given your long tenure in Korea- you already knew this. I'm just throwing it out for the newbs.

I asked why the windows had to be open today. I was told it's because of 'New Building Syndrome'. The building was built in 1983. Hmm.

Furthermore after whining all morning about it being cold it was time for lunch. I thought we'd go to a nice warm restaurant as usual.. but oh no, today is apparantely barbecue weather, so lunch was outside.

I must remember to wear my jacket next week..

Yes, you can (and should) look forward to a winter with the heat cranked to max, the windows wide open, and the students bundled up like Michelin people. I recommend dressing in layers.
