Black American with several years of experience, great references, degree and all that. Currently in China, but looking to get out. I am clean-cut, friendly and not a partyhound.
PM me if you know of anyplace that will be hiring soon, any assistance will be appreciated. |

I have 3 years in the states, 1 in S. America and 1 in China. In addition, I have good references and have conducted teacher training courses. My undergrad degree is in Marketing. |

hey jg, thinking of the jump over from China?
Anyhow.. there are places here and there.. hard to really know which places exactly.. for some reasons it seems the better places seem to hire the better qualified regardless of skin color/age/nationality/etc.. or even if korean ethnic american/canadian whatever..
Whereas the really bad schools seem to specifically want a 'token' teacher which is at its most ideal is a white female with a north american accent.. just for the image factor regardless of teaching ability.
Anyhow.. that might work out to your advantage.. best bet is just to apply and they'll always ask for a picture.. and if they ask for a picture (its almost standard practice they do).. just send it along and see what happens. Met a small handful of african-american teachers here and there so the jobs are around.. just a matter of getting the resume in that employers hands. |

JET seems hire a lot of non white native speakers. My friend is Chinese Canadian and had no problem getting a job teaching in a Japanese public school via JET. Maybe the Korean EPIK program has a similar attitude? |

I dont understand this response.
EPIK is very progressive in hiring qualified applicants regardless of ethnicity, age, or appearance. |

Interesting set of replies...you might want to specifically seek advice from blacks (or other minorities) that are here and working. I find the white perspective usually be a bit too negative. While I'd never look down my nose at a reference or connection, I've found it more productive to network with those who've been there. |
