U.S. Deserter Discusses Life in N. Korea

TOKYO - First he abandoned the American military and fled across one of the world's most heavily armed borders into North Korea. Then, after living for nearly 40 years in the isolated nation, he moved to Japan and surrendered to U.S. authorities.
Now U.S. Army deserter Charles Robert Jenkins has committed his four-decade odyssey to paper, publishing an autobiography titled, "To Tell the Truth."
The book, which has so far only been published in Japanese by a Japanese publisher, details Jenkins' story from his youth in Rich Square, N.C., to his present life in Japan. It appeared in early October, and Jenkins says he is searching for an American publisher.
"I thought about it for a long time ... I really wanted to publish a book," Jenkins said at a news conference Wednesday. "So I decided to tell the story ... not just my story but also my wife's, my daughters'."
Jenkins has quite a story to tell.

| I'm wondering when his book will be published in English? In addition, are there many American MIA's in North Korea? Some people seem to think so. |

Yes you two ... still believed to be hundreds of MIA's in North Korea; both from the Korean war AND Vietnam!
A few weeks back i started a thread on this matter ( it included a couple of audio interview links with Bob Dumas ) but seemed to generate little interest.

RALEIGH, N.C. - A U.S. Army deserter who spent decades in North Korea says his communist keepers abused him and controlled every aspect of his life, down to telling him how often to have sex.
"It was the worst mistake anyone ever made," Charles Jenkins said. "In words, I cannot express the feelings I have towards North Korea, the harassment I got, the hard life."
In an interview airing Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes", Jenkins said he was given no painkillers when a tattoo on his forearm that read "U.S. Army" was cut off with a scalpel and scissors.
"They told me the anesthetic was for the battlefield," said Jenkins, a North Carolina native. "It was hell."

I can't believe an American publisher (or anyone in English) hasn't taken him up on this yet. |

Considering the post 9/11 climate in the US, they probably fear being labeled as 'unpatriotic'. |

The norks let him have sex???? with Nork women? Im suprised they wouldnt want to keep him from "polluting the han river" or some such. |
