If you've seen this movie, please help me fricking understand it.
If you haven't seen this movie, don't read any further because I'm about to explain the whole plot.
***************************************************************
OK. So what's the deal? It's supposed to be some Sixth Sense or The Others-type deal, right, Su-yeon was dead the whole time. And Su-mi was hallucinating that Su-yeon was around and that the stepmother was some horrible witch. As best I could tell Su-mi finally totally flipped out, hallucinated that she was the stepmother and stuffed some dolls into a bag, beat the dolls to "death" and stuffed the bag in the wardrobe, thinking she was the stepmother beating Su-yeon to death.
But that still leaves plenty of stuff unexplained, doesn't it? Like in the beginning, when the father's underwear was already washed and folded and Su-mi's dresser and wardrobe were filled with identical items to what she'd brought. And, that malevolent spirit we kept getting glimpses of, the stepmother's brother's wife having a seizure and seeing a girl under the kitchen sink, the girls having their period at the same time etc.
And how did Su-yeon die? The wardrobe fell on her. But the stepmother went in the room--why didn't she do anything? And why did their mother's corpse fall out of the wardrobe before it tipped over?
So is there really an explanation, or did the writers just say, "Ah, *beep* it, that's good enough." |

I thought it was pretty good. However, I do find that there is a general "sameness" to Asian horror films. I've seen maybe twenty or so(including Hollywood remakes) and find it difficult to remember what happened in which, given the repetition of imagery and motifs.
For example, do they know any other way to portray a ghost besides as a girl with her hair hanging down over her face? I guess maybe that's the traditional Asian idea of what ghosts looks like, but it would be like if every Hollywood horror film showed a ghost as a floating white burial shroud. |

That's all that really needs to be said, IMO.
Jingle should be writing for the IMDB. |

I liked it, but haven't rewatched it since it was in the theatres. Can't remember well enough to help you out, but why don't you see if the DVD has English and watch it on DVD? |

A TALE OF TWO SISTERS is fantastic.
I'm starting to get the feeling that a lot of expats in Korea don't have the most solid of movie tastes. |

Fantastic, as in "using the screeching violins at full volume for 5 seconds to let you know that the hand will be coming out from under the cupboard" fantastic?
2 sisters is a pathetic pastiche of every horror movie cliche you've ever seen. It's a movie for Korean schoolgirls to get their scream on.
If that's a 'solid' taste, feel free to call me gassy. |

I did. Not enough. The "special edition" DVD supposedly has a bunch of deleted scenes that reveal more. (And were cut for that reason.) |

I thought the cinematography and look of the movie was stunning.
one of the creepiest scenes in horror movies ever has to be that scene when that woman is choking, lying on the floor...and she sees the mangled ghost underneath the sink....holy crap! |

They gave the tapes and a pair of kiddy scissors to a toddler and that's how it was edited. An attempt to do a 'Memento' that didn't work. One of the most inept films I've ever seen, Krean or otherwise. |

Maybe next time you want to dip into exaggeration, try to come up with a comparison film that actually has a sliver of relation to the film you are trying to rip into.
Just a tip. |
