| I was just out driving last weekend and happened upon the "village". It really is out in the sticks. |

That WAS a really good post - very informative. I'm not interested in the job, but it was good reading. |

| Sounds like an excellent place to stay the hell away from, as a teacher! |

| I work at the village as well. 3baekwon was actually being very polite and managed to hold back much of the real feelings he/she must have. There are about 20 of 39 foreign teachers who have left or will leave by the end of the contract August 1st. You want to hear the full story? Check back a few weeks from then after we have received our severence and other final payments. The truth can be an ugly thing. |

so the countdown is on. tomorrow, all of the 'haters' of ansan english village will be able to spill the real truth as the severance cheque should be in the mail by now.
who will be the first?
who will be the most politically correct?
who will be completely honest?
will anyone stick up for the village?
i can't wait to see what you have to say... |

Sheesh, I cannot believe just how long it took to get this account activated (1 week!!! ), anyway......
Sorry to drag this thread up again, but it was better than starting a new one- I'm in China currently, almost finished my 1 year stint here. I have had info emailed to me about this new camp in Paju and want to know more about what people thought of the current camp operating. I have read this thread, and it seems that they pay the correct amount on time and don't screw you over *too* badly with the contract.
I'm not concerned about the distance as a couple of people here mentioned. I am now stuck 8 hours away from the nearest decent city (Xian) so I really doubt ANYWHERE in Korea would be that kind of distance. To me the money doesn't seem bad at all- before you freak out, I *only* have a year's experience, BA (not Ed) degree and no TEFL cert. So to me 2.6 mil doesn't seem bad at all, even if it's a 40 hour week. I really think I with my lack of experience (and grunt) I wouldn't find a job paying that much to begin with. Anyone think there would be basic shops with basic amenities onsite, or close by? I don't drink or crave nightlife- in my spare time I just prefer to relax with a DVD, internet or book, so I don't think I will be fighting to get outta there!
I'd be interested in applying for the position but just wanted to run it by you all first- good to finally be in the forum |

Mr. Chun's School of Piano is hiring. They need a piano polisher.
Look best thing to do is to get to Korea. They want fresh white meat with a degree. Experience?????????
Don't worry about it, just get your butt to Korea and run down some of the help wanted on Dave's Work n play and English Spectrum. Go scope the places out and talk to the teachers yourself.
Now if that doesn't work my school may just be in the mood to hire a new teacher come X-mas as I may, just may be leaving to try something different at a new school. Depends how brave I am or how much effort I want to expend. |

Hi Dan, thanks for the reply . I feel a bit nervous going over without the right visa and without a job lined up, I don't want to get my hopes up (even now with my 1 year's China experience) only to have to turn around and go home and waste my money on nothing. Is it really worth the risk, have most people that you know of been successful doing this? |

| Ok, so, Im kind of digging this one up a bit again. Theres been a few ads for the Paju English Village/Camp. Am I completely mental if I apply for this? Do you think it will pretty much be the same as the Ansan Camp minus the accommodation being far away? Did the teachers end up getting their end of year payment??? One earlier post said that you can work 13 hrs straight. How is this possible when they say the maximum is 8? I mean, I know that they can change stuff, but it seems a bit extreme. Also, do you think that the camp will actually open on time at the start of Feb?? Any comments/opinions about the new Paju EV would be much appreciated. |

I'm curious about the Paju positions as well.
All of you English Village folks chime in and give us the pros and cons. |

Me 3
I have applied but haven't sent the actual application form yet because I have no access to a scanner in the middle of China! They said it was okay, but they're ssssooooo slow getting back to you!
If this doesn't work out I sure hope I can find a job. I'm getting a bit depressed and cynical about discriminating Koreans who only want YANKS and aren't interested in AUSTRALIANS! I don't want to leave til January, so I have some leeway finding work, but I had no idea it would be THIS DIFFICULT |

| I work at another English Village (Camp) in another province. We had the good fortune to visit Ansan E.V. a couple of weeks ago... while our camp is much smaller, I would not trade my position for one at Ansan for anything. |

Long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm glad I found this thread. I'm hoping to find a teaching job in Korea in the new year, and recently spoke to a company that has been contracted to start an English Village in Seoul. Anyone hear about this particular English Village yet? I'm wondering if anyone has a clue about how similar (in structure and expectations) it's going to be to the one in Ansan.
Thanks! |
