I've got an Averatec that used to be ultra-quiet. As in you couldn't hear a peep from it except about once or twice an hour when the fan cranks up to blast out the heat.
Well since a few days ago that fan has been cranking up to maximum volume about twenty -- thirty times an hour. And believe me when I say that it gets loud enough to drive me totally fucking insane, especially since one of the huge selling points for me was its quietness.
I figured maybe I had some virus or spyware infestation causing the CPU to work too hard. It turned out I did and I took care of the problem. The fan is cranking up just slightly less often.
So what is the deal? Do I have options other than living with it or buying a new machine? Because it truly is driving me up the wall enough that I am already considering dropping 800 big ones or so. |

Take it in. And the sooner, the better.
For one, it definately needs cleaning. Korea is a very dirty place, and everyone should clean their laptop every year or two.
More than likely, a fan is going bad. Get it fixed. Now. If you don't, you stand a good chance of having to buy a new laptop when this one fries.
It shouldn't be an expensive fix.
Fans go out all of the time. Before they do, they become noisy. |

Dust, dust, and more dust. And possibly the bearings on your fan are going, if it's making a whining or squealing sound. A cleaning and maybe a new fan are in order. Both are easy and cheap. |
