HI all,
i'm not a genius when it comes to technology. I had my internet installed this past week through KT and it was all good until i got home this afternoon. (I used it last night)The internet is connected but it's not connecting to webpages. So ic an't surf the net or use MSN etc.. even though the icon for internet connection is there..I've had this happen before back in Canada but i can't remember how to fix it.. i'm not calling KT because i'm not giong to bother trying to find an English speaker...... a useful step by step guide would be cool.. something about IP numbers i'm thinking?

Try right clicking your internet connection icon in your traskbar and select 'repair connection'. If it is an IP refresh problem, that should fix it.

i had the same problem with my laptop. The idiot who is contracted by our school said it was impossible to have an english computer on the korean network....pfffffffft.
They'll say anything to keep from having to say "i don't know" i swear.

Anyways, we got the hanafos dude in and he showed me
get to control panel
to system
to hardware
to device manager

on our computer it had a "network connections" label....my buddies had an "internet connection" label. Either way. . right click. If there is a problem with the driver, it'll say it there. there is also a trouble shooter on that too (but in my experience the xp trouble shooter has ONLY worked for me once......but this was the time).

Last week mine stopped connecting, too. In the end, the problem was, (according to the 3 KT men at my apartment), that my American laptop uses AT channels 12-13, whereas the Korean Nespot black box thing uses channels below 11. Somehow they rigged my computer to change to a lower channel. Then they told me to never turn the power off on my black box.

BTW, if you call 100 then press 8 then press 2, you will get an English speaker from KT. The guy who helped me on the phone last week spoke very well and was also very sympathetic.

Have you tried turing off the modem and turning it back on again?

Also, 4 times this year my internet just stopped working. The guy told me that what the ISP companies do is purposfully disconnect other ISP's connections so they can say how bad their service is. Every time it happened to me the guy just came in went downstairs to the junction box and it was working again in like 5 minutes.

I have the same damned problem from time to time with my North American Cable ISP. Sometimes a release/renew of the IP fixes it, sometimes I have to turn off and restart the modem, and sometimes I have to reboot. The couple of times this did not work turned out to be problems originating from the ISP and were a few hours in duration. I'm sure this happens from time to time in Korea, so if you can't phone your ISP, sometimes you just need to turn off the computer and walk away for a couple of hours.

Overall I had less problems with aDSL, but when I did the problems were almost always at the ISP and there was nothing I could do. They were pretty transparent though- they always sent a follow up email explaining what, why, how long, how many affected, and how they fixed it so it wouldn't (hopefully) ever happen again.
