At 1am there will be no airport buses or trains from Bangkok airport to downtown.
So unless you have other transport arrangements - you will need to take a taxi.
I (Soviet_Man) have stayed at "Sam's Lodge" in Bangkok (http://www.samslodge.com) which cost me about $22 US a night (in June this year). It is centrally located in Sukhumvit, in a clean 5 story airconditioned building and is run by a (friendly) Indian family.
I would 100% endorse this establishment. |

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster!!!
buddy it doesnt matter what time of the day you fly into bkk..
check customs , make sure you change your won into US dollars in korea then change the usd into BHT I know sounds weird but you save on it.. change USD into bht at BKK airport..
then get into a taxi. make sure you get a ticket.. dont let anyone hussle you.. if you do go with someone.. dont more than 300 bht to sukimvit!
hotels.. well you will arrive at 2am so you have to pay for the full night
but so what!!
finding a hotel.. not a problem... check the internet..
how much you want to pay..?
now becuase the curfew is in effect, the entertainment places will be closes, NEP Soi cowboy and patpong.. BUT that doesnt mean the nights over!!!
if you are looking for company then you had PM me for directions to the bars.
or if you are not interested in that sort of stuff.. then you will find bars willing to serve you a beer at 2am not a problem..
why dont you give us alittle more details on what it is you are after.. |

Many international flights, especially those connecting in Japan from North America, arrive between 11pm and 1am. It's totally normal and you have nothing to worry about.
Take a metered taxi from the official taxi stand on the sidewalk outside the arrivals area. Tell the nice ladies in the booth where you're going (Sukhumvit or Khao San are good bets) and they'll give you a slip of paper. Hand it to the taxi driver and you're on your way.
I'd recommend the New Siam Guesthouse on Soi Chanasongkhram, off of Thanon Phra Athit. It's in Banglamphu, near Khao San Road, but not close enough to be super annoying all of the time. It's clean, the staff is really nice, and the beds have real mattresses with box springs and non-stinky pillows. But the best part is that all of the walls are concrete so it's SILENT. Expect to pay about 400 for a ensuite fan double; there are cheaper rooms if you don't mind sharing the toilet/shower. They also have a more upmarket place around the corner (New Siam II) which has all AC rooms and a pool.
Oh, and like someone else said, DON'T take Korean won out of Korea. |

A few things
Never take a taxi from a man who comes up to you in the terminal-they are Thai mafia and will overcharge you. Take it from the taxi line outside.
If you go to the Sukumvhit area (350.00 by taxi) they move all the bars out into the street and they stay open all night. A nice hotel there is the World Inn (700B on Soi 7.) http://worldinn.tripod.com
You can take a Bus from Ekamai East terminal, B100 - it is a few stops from Sukumvhit. Be careful - make sure it is 100B and not cheaper- the cheaper one is a milk-run and will take 4 hours.
Pattaya had tons of good hotels. I always stay at GJ's on in Pattayaland 1, but there are probably better ones for the money. During low season you can get a nice enough one for 400B, that is with air-con, cable, room safe. |

I have stated at Siam II and reccomend it too. In Pattya a good place is the Honey Lodge. Down a quiet lane, a few metres from walking street. 500 bht and you get a good room, ac, fridge TV and there's a pool. No extra charge for guests. |

Good advice, however, I would like to add, that even with the regular taxis...they often "forget" to turn the meter on.....and then quote an absurdly high price at the end....ALWAYS insist, and say "taxi meter" to them several times, till you see them turn it on....or get another taxi. I learned that the hard way. Never negotiate....always the meter. |

The last buses (for all routes departing from Bangkok airport) leave at or before 10.30pm.
However anytime after 9pm (out of the airport) may be cutting it a bit close to make it onto a direct bus to your destination.
The route "A3" bus to Sukhumvit is probably the safest bet for a first time visitor (stops at several major hotels, the subway, skytrain). |

If you book into a hotel and it includes airport transfers, what exactly does that mean? Do you have someone at the airport to meet you? Do you catch a taxi and the hotel pays? Sorry, never used airport transfers before. |

no that means that someone will be waiting for you as you walk out of customs with a SIGN SAYING your name.. its free as long as the hotel states its free.. or they provide a service where you pay for it..
find out if its included in your rates.. or is it extra.. if its free a tip of 100 bht is not so bad for the drivers troubles.. |

I posted earlier, or thought I did, but I don't see it now. (edit- now I remember- it was over on the Thailand board!)
I stay near the airport at the Don Muang Mansion. I looked up the information:
Don Muang Mansion
Cheap rest stop close to airport
Accommodation : Inexpensive
118/7 Saranakom Road
Don Muang
Bangkok
10210
+66 02 566 4041-4
Fax: +66 02 566 3514
I have made reservation by phone from here. If you leave the airport and take the over pass to the expensive hotel across the street (from inside the airport) you can get a cheap taxi (no airport fees, and it is close to the Mansion).
DO NOT take a taxi offered by the touts inside the airport. It is a huge rip off. The Don Muang is pretty quiet, and there is cheap cold beer in the fridge in the rooms.
I've stayed there several time in transit, and have found it quite comfortable, and I am pretty bitchy about things like peace and quiet and safety. |

Jet blows tyres on landing
October 26, 2005
Thai Airways jet blew several tyres as it landed at Melbourne airport around midday today, Airservices Australia said.
All air traffic into and out of Melbourne airport has been brought to a standstill.
The plane was stranded at the intersection of two runways at the airport, a spokesman for the air traffic control agency said.
The Airbus A340 "landed heavily" and "damaged a number of wheels on landing", the spokesman said.
"There was a small fire in the undercarriage," he said.
Planes are being diverted to Adelaide and Avalon airports for the time being and engineers are looking at the under-carriage to see whether the plane can be towed.
So far, 12 planes had been diverted from the airport or delayed. |

What are you implying with this post? It's hard to figure, since it is not about Thailand or motels. |
