My former french friend of 3 years reckoned most of the French wwII vets that roll out on parade every year are fakes, and very few who claim to actually put up any resistance against the nazis. Most of them helped them in fact.
Life is about women and shag*ing. thats all. Not war! he used to say.
"We don't care about ze fuc*ing war. just fuc*ing!".
Hilarious dude- the chicks did indeed love him, but he always ran at the first sight of an angry boyfriend.

Very interesting reading.
However, it's hardly news when the French get their asses handed to them on the battlefield... |

| While late medieval or very early modern can be fun and entertaining, ya got any Brit victories of the 20th Century to report on? |

Umm lets see now:
20thc British military history:
Boxer Rebellion (1900)
World War I (1914–1918)
Easter Rising (1916)
Russian Civil War (1918–1922)
Third Anglo-Afghan War (1919)
Anglo-Irish War (1919–1921) D
Turkish War of Independence (1919–1923)
The Pacific War (1937–1945)
World War II (1939–1945)
Anglo-Iraqi War (1941)
Greek Civil War (1941–1949)
Cold War (1945–1991)
Malayan Emergency (1948–1960)
Korean War (1950–1953)
Mau Mau Uprising (1952–1960)
Cyprus Emergency (1955–1959)
Suez Crisis (1956)
Brunei Uprising (1962)
Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation (1962–1966)
Aden Emergency (1963–1967)
Northern Ireland Troubles (1969-mid 1990s)
Cod War Confrontation (1975–1976)
Falklands War (1982)
The First Gulf War (1990–1991)
The Bosnian War (1995–1996)
The Kosovo War (1999)

Its difficult to say wether these conflicts were victories, draws, or losses for Britain, as most were fought with alliances of many countries and involve treaties and truces etc.
The Falklands springs to mind as a clear victory involving the Brits alone. The rest are allied actions. Aden clearly involves the Brits being forced out of what is now Yemen.
Someone once told me that Britain has never won a war under a labor govt. is that true? |

Yes, but the only Labour administration before WWII lasted a mere two years, and after WWII most wars were fought under Tory governments, or straddled governments.
Unless you count Gulf War 2 - Return of the Bush as being a victory. |

| But rapier, my boy, I was not asking about how many skirmishes and difficulties Britain was involved in in the 20th Century. I used the word 'victories'. There were quite a few. |

If you knew, why not post them yourself? You appeared to be saying Britain had few or any military victories in the 20th century, that was the implied tone. |

Here's one.
Indeed, troops from all over the Empire/Commonwealth fought in it. (I believe the soldiers capturing this German tank are Aussies.) But it still counts as a British victory in my book. This in no way takes away any glory due their gallant allies/associates:
Australia
India
New Zealand
South Africa
Greece
& Free French |

England did nothing of note in either of these. |

A woman is walking down the street, and as she goes by a pet shop, she sees a small sign in the window that says "####-licking Frog, 20". She looks around quickly, and goes in. She pretends to browse a few minutes, and eventually sidles up to the guy at the counter.
In a quiet voice, she embarrassedly says to him, "I'm here, um, about the,uh, about the (ahem), the ####-licking frog."
The guy behind the counter looks at her and says, "Ah, oui madame!" |

Youtube wasn't on my radar two years ago when I OP'd this thread...
so here's a fun look at some interpretations of the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V:
David Gwillim
Laurence Olivier
Kenneth Branagh |
