What is the tattoo like? Color? Blackwork? Like Grotto said you might be able to get it removed here. Keep in mind it's very very painful and sometimes leaves scaring. |

Wow, that is great to know. |

| I got the Korean Flag tattooed on my arm and just checking to see if Korean people will be offended by it. I did it because I found Korea to be a great place and I feel it will always be a part of me. I just don't want to offend anyone or cause trouble when I go to the gym or sauna. Any advice would be great. |

I have two tattoos. I didn't tell my prospective employers about them, they have no bearing on my teaching ability.
When they noticed them in the summer it wasn't a problem. |

Are there any safe ,affordable places to get tatoos in Seoul?
What are the prices like? I am thinking of getting one small tatoo to remember this crazy place by. Any suggestions for a tatoo? I was thinking a Korean flag or a yinyang symbol (although that is more chinese). |

My left forearm is covered all black work...egyptian eye...celtic dragons... japanese styled waves and chinese characters all intertwined...It goes almost to the palm on my wrist...
I wear long sleeves to school and a long stretchy wristband in case of the aforementioned slide up sleeve...not a sighting yet... but I asked the public school I am at and they only politely suggested I not make them visible to the students....
...When I taught at EWHA (W) all the kids knew and although first I was the jopokmunshinteecha they all came to realize I was just another teacher and no one cared...some mommies rang up the Hogwon but most of the kids knew I was an easygoing teacher and not part of any sauna dragon club...
...to each his/her own |

I'm a elementary school substitute teacher here in the states and I have tattoos, three or four on each arm (below the sleeve). Obviously, I wear long-sleeve shirts to work and it's never been a problem. Occasionally, the ones visible on my wrist will be seen, at which time, I simply address that it's a tattoo and that I have a bunch and then we move on with the lesson. That's the extent of an interruption it creates, if that happens at all.
I was honest about this with the last hogwon I tried to negotiate a contract with and they said that as long as I covered them up, there would be no problem. I wonder if this had something to do with the job falling through though?
Should I remain honest with the schools beforehand or just show up and keep them covered?
Is being honest going to keep me from getting a job?
Thanks for the help. |
I say keep it to yourself. I have a tattoo on my ankle and I wear dark hose or pants. It's never been an issue until the summer and then they love me so much that it's an interesting conversation rather than "ohmygod, we've hired a gangster!" Yours are a bit more conscipcuous, but I would just make sure I wore the right clothes to cover them up. If it comes up while you're here, then explain it, but you won't be the only foreigner here with tattoos. |

I chose to be branded with a big OMEGA by my fraternity in university. I wear a long sleeve shirt to cover it up, as well as the two on my chest.
Kids are VERY freaked out by it if they see it. I just tell them, 'Well, that's what they do to black people in the Canada. They do it to Asians, too!'
Utter looks of shock!

I have a large swastika tatooed on my head and it hasn't been a problem.
I'm working on a bleeding dagger on my arm as well but I find that Mon Ami ink doesn't work as well as Bik. Any suggestions? I mean I really botched the little tear near my left eye, but love on my left hand digits came out cool but the o in love on my right isn't so good. I'm thinking of removing it with an electric sander. Has anybody tried this? |
