Usually I can drink beer all night and not get drunk, so long as I don't mix it with other drinks.

The other day I had a really strange experience. O.K., I had eaten and was not anymore tired than normal and I went out and had a few beers. By the start of the 3rd beer I was stagerring.

I went to Geckos and had two more beers and a cheeseburger.

After these 5 beers I was plastered and sick. I went directly home as I did not like the affect the beer was having on me.

Also, I got quite sick (no details)

I do not understand this. I was not drinking that fast-nothing out of the ordinary.

Some days I can drink and drink and drink and drink with little or no problems.. The alcohol usually melllows me out and I am quie amiable. This last episode concerned me--it was not fun.

Has this ever happened to anyone here? You went out and it hit you way faster than normal?

Taken any medicine or anything that would lower your tolerance?

Otherwise maybe your immune system is playing up, I know that if am about to get sick or have been off-colour then I can get hammered faster than usual.

Why, is it some immensely shameful thing that renders ones manhood nill?

I am quite curious and I thank the earlier poster for a reasonable response.

Where I come from, you've pretty much just announced to the world that you're thinking of becoming a Bangkok ladyboy. In Newcastle your parents would be burning old family photos about now.

(also thanks!)

i have no desire to become a ladyboy- I just have a question about how the alcohol hit me that one night and was curious if anyone had a like experience. It is news to me that that is interpreted as having desires to become a ladyboy.

I guess what you are stating is that such a weakness (having a bad night with the alcohol and going home, rather than continuing on ) should never be discussed on a public forum.

heh heh...

If I were you, I wouldn't let this worry me too much if it's only happened once. If it continues, then get right back here and report all about it. And don't let Swiss James thinking you're a girly-man discourage you. All us girly-men will have our laugh when we're 50 and still have fully functioning livers. Cool

BTW, I had a somewhat similar experience to yours a few months ago, brought on by two Guinnesses and whatever it was I punctuated them with, Jameson or JW Black. Became all unGurufied right in front of my chingoos. Hated that. Bad. If I'd been alone, I wouldn't have tried to finish that second Guinness. (Then again, I wouldn't have been drinking Guinness in the first place.) I even wondered if it could be food poisoning, the way it hit so hard and so suddenly. Didn't touch alcohol for about 4 or 5 days. I half-hoped it was something I ate or caught.

That doesn't explain anything. Just ... I think I know what it was like.

where I come from, people of 50 with fully functioning livers are tied to a post in the town square where they are ridiculed by noblemen of the parish.

However- I do find that drinking is partly psychosomatic (sp) and if you start with the intention that you're going to get very drunk- you find yourself that way more quickly than otherwise- same if you're very stressed out or have a lot on your mind.

Also, was it a full moon?

I think I have discovered what you did wrong.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that possibly your mistake was not listening to your body's signals. If you are "staggering" after two beers, STOP DRINKING at least for a couple hours. Why your tolerance was low is a meaningless question. Maybe you were under stress or something was unusual about your body's chemistry that day... doesn't matter. If you had paid attention to the warning signs you would have been fine.

I had a kinda weird spell last week...i was busy running about all day getting dinner and such ready for my bday...i got a crazy head spin and felt like i was going to faint....this was after only one beer which i was nursing for the better part of an hour...

I blame it on not enough red meat and my adopted balliballi ways... Laughing

I can drink a lot.
But I did have a similar episode a couple of years ago.
Got wasted and sick way early in the drinking.
In the after-action review, my partner pointed out
that we drank much. Sure, but I don't get sick often.
I'm thinking either stress or mild food poisoning.
(from the undercooked pork we eat so much.)

I'd say stress.. That's the night my now spouse
sent the text message, "Let's just be friends."
Shocked Gotta be a drain on the system.
