What makes you think South Korea or any place in the world is going to be immune to the spread of this disease? The entire world is at risk of a mutation we have YET to see. Could the worst mutation first appear in America, Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa? No one knows or even cares to speculate with certainty at this point.

no actually we do know that it is starting in asia. doctors here in canada are warning everybody about travelling to asian countries. So to answer your question Asia is deemed right now the most dangerouse spot for the Bird Flu. And my post was asking whether there have been scares or anythign in Pusan.
Thanx for your reply though.

This is a prime example of misinformation. Please read this:

"Though human cases have been linked to contact with sick birds, experts fear the virus could mutate into a form that is easily transmittedfrom person to person, possibly causing a pandemic that could kill millions. The last major pandemic, the Spanish flu in 1918, killed up to an estimated 50 million people worldwide." http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/miamiherald/news/world/canada/12997169.htm?source=rss&channel=miamiherald_canada

"The virus has killed at least 62 people across Asia since late 2003. Most of the people infected with the H5N1 strain of bird flu have had contact with sick birds. Health experts fear that if it mutates into a form that is easily transmissible between people, it could spark a pandemic, possibly killing millions." http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/10/28/health/main990637.shtml

What seems to be widely accepted is the fact that people seem to have contracted the virus from direct contact with sick birds... not other people.... that is the key point. At this time, I'm not coming in contact with any live birds soooooo........ AND there isn't any proof that I can get the disease from infected people. When and where this virus decides to mutate and spread EASILY from human to human remains to be seen. It could be Asia but then again it could be Spain AGAIN, who knows.

Geez I remember five years ago when the fear was the West Nile Virus and we never hear about that one anymore. Before West Nile Virus there were people worried about Lime disease. Those viruses still exist but people are not all paraniod about them anymore - we still venture outdoors without our bug repellant. My goodness I might get a tick bite Shocked . The sun might give me skin cancer... better cover myself head to toe in 45spf sun block Confused . The water has lead and mercury oh my... I better not drink a drop of water again Crying or Very sad . Second hand smoke causes lung cancer.... I better not go ANY place that has the possiblity of there being a smoker Rolling Eyes . Mad cow disease spread in Europe.... I better not eat ANY beef... oh "where's the beef!? Razz " Do you get it?

The only effect SO FAR is that the price of a whole chicken (to roast) has doubled in the past year.
