I'm bringing my racquet with me. Is squash at all popular?? Does anyone on this board play??

Also I'm bringing my bike. The job is in Daegu and I want to cycle from Seoul down to Daegu over a period of a couple (or more) days.

Any advice??

I started playing squash here. I was able to find a squash place in Mokpo, so I'm sure you'll have no trouble in Daegu (a much larger city).

The level of the average squash club member in Korea is very low. I was an E grade player back in New Zealand yet I could beat every player in my club.

There are quite a lot of clubs here and you should be able to find one no problem.

However, most of the courts really suck big time. The walls are often made of some stupid wood and the ceilings are way too low; often just above the red out-line. This virtually rules out veritable lob shots. I had to re-invent my game. Another gripe is that most Koreans don't know "let" rules so be prepared to lose an eye. Finally there is no interclub, regular tournaments or grading system. I've become frustrated with playing squash here and don't really play much anymore.

The squash clubs are not like at home. Squash clubs here are usually mixed with Gyms and there are no bars for the after game drink and socialisation.

There are however 2 good clubs in Daegu that have regulation sized courts. One is in Buk-gu (North Daegu) and the other is in Seong-So (West Daegu). If you are serious about playing squash here and want to find these courts, feel free to PM or email me. I'll be happy to show you exactly where they are.

Cycling down from Seoul to Daegu? You must be mad... You'd better be a hell of a good cyclist! I'd take the train. It cost less than 20,000 won.

Seoul to Daegu is nothing for a real cyclist! I made it from Vancouver to Halifax on a 60 day oddessy last summer!

Yep....that was my escape from Korea last May. Just jumped a plane to Vancouver, bought a bike and some camping gear, pointed her east and made a go of it. Wasn't sure I'd make it but eventually the Atlantic Ocean appeared before me! It was a truly amazing trip.....life changing really....

Good to know that there's squash there and that the quality of play is fairly low (there's only so much decent arm strength and strategy can make up for complete lack of coordination), too bad I stepped on my raquet Sad
