|
|
I got back from holidays the other week and my friend told me that there has been some changes to our visas..
1: We can work any job now . we dont have to get visas anymore ontop of our F2 we can just go to work anywhere we want!
is this true?
2: If you divorce, you still remain on your F2 visa and can still work on it?
I have seen now schools, and public schools hiring for F2 holders now even without degrees!!!?? DAMN!! so whats up with that??
I thought even though you are married you still need a diploma to teach las a profession ? but now it seems you dont.. just your F2 is your work visa, and there are no special degrees needed if you are married.
anyone got answers? |

Yeah, it's true. But, you have to marry a Korean. I did and it was worth it. I can work anywhere and all the kinchi I can eat.
I'm teaching at a college right now and trying to set up privates. It's all legal.
Good luck. |

| If you have lived in Korea for 2 years with an F-2 or F-2-1 visa , you may apply for the F-5. I applied this morning and was given a 2 year extension of my F-2-1 and told that I would be notified by Immigration when my F-5 was ready. I was given a receipt to show that I had applied for F-5 status. Due to background checks and personnel shortages it can take up to 6 months to obtain the F-5. The whole process took an hour this morning. When my F-5 is approved , Immigration will update my passport and issue me a new ARC card the same day. |

F-5 is permanent residency.
I thought you had to stay here for 5 years, married, before they would consider giving it to you? |

| Yes , F-5 is Perm. Residency. The new laws have changed the qualification period from 5 years to two years. |

Are you a man or a woman?
So with an F-5 you never have to do paperwork again? I assume this is the only real advantage besides maybe getting the secret Korean wink when doing business at Korean offices. Kind of like the US green card as it is good as long as the status you were given the card on doesn't change? No? |

Permanent residency. Hmmm. Do I want to be a permanent resident of Korea? I'll have to give this one the once over. |

| I am a man but the new laws treats men and women the same. Yes , the F-5 is like the US green card. One other benefit is that you do not have to use the foreigner lines when going thru Immigration at the airport. You can use the Korean citizen lines if you choose. |

| One other benefit that I forgot to mention is that if you have this status and divorce your Korean spouse , you do not lose your residency. |

Great information. I know I could just have my wife call immigration but it is easier to ask you here and helps everyone else get more info as well.
How does this affect re-entry permits?
Since you are going in the Korean lines when coming back into Korea, would you pay the airport tax upon leaving Incheon or get a re-entry permit? If you have not noticed, Koreans pay an airport tax upon leaving Incheon, foreigners do not. Vice versa for the re-entry permit. |

Just answered my own question. From their site:
"Holders of Permanent Residency don't have to apply for a Re-Entry permit if they want to leave Korea temporarily and return to Korea in a year." |

| What are the exact requirements to switch over to the F5 visa? I have 3 years on the F2-1 - what sort of paperwork do I need to do/bring? |
