It is my fathers and my brothers birthdays coming up this month, and I want to send them somthing cool and korean, but have absolutely no idea what to get for them, since what i see would suit a chick much better than men. Has anyone got any ideas? It would have to be reasonably light so it wouldn't cost the earth, and also, nothing too smashable. cheers.

Oh, My brother will be turning 20 - surfs, doing engineering, pretty cool dude.

My dad will be bout 46, loves crap (like me!), and is rather conservative.

Okay, you're offensive but youu're making me laugh.

Of course, if you were to say that in person about my dad I'd kick your ass, but I would be chuckling at the same time.

I've had friends of mine in the 25-30 y/o group ask me to check out Korean drums. If he's into surfing, he's into campfires, right?

CDs, pen set, or a model.

A carved ceramic/marble stamp from a shop in Insadong. The stamps are pretty solid and if packed well should be fine. Or one of those whimsical masks would be cool for either of them. Smile

Happy shopping,

Kate

If any of them are artistically inclined, one of the traditional calligraphy sets (also found in insa-dong) could be pretty cool.

True - nobody deserves anything, but, being the caring, sharing gal I am, I thought I'd spread the joy.

What are these stamp things? What do they have on them? That sounds interesting. As for the masks, I am saving them for christmas pressies. That way I can be cheap and send one for both my parents.

Corvid - those drums sound like they could be it. Though, I haven't seen them yet, and am imagining that they aren't that small. Tim plays the guitar so he is rather musically inclined.

These suggestions are really good. I am sure that they'll be thanking you when their little packages of goodies comes through. Smile

I think the Stamps are the name stamps. Business and people use them as a signature. I think they are called "Chops". Acutally a nice gift and not very expensive. And easy to send home.

Find a nice stamp/chop store. They have a sign with a square red or a dodad that looks like a weird lipstick container.

I would recomend dragging a Korean or a waygook with ok Korean along.

Get you family names transciped into Konglish. Usually just the first name. Get the names put on the blocks. May take a few days to have them made.

A good shop should have a nice selection of stamp styles. Some cool looking rock/granite ones. Or cheap plastic ones.

Go to a stationary store and pick up a couple of RED ink pad. 300 won per pad.

And send home. Do not forget to wrap.

Very Happy To the Man known as the man,

Cor blimey, I'm glad I make you laugh! I'll keep posting some howlers. Everbody so serious on this board, I've had an e mail from a certain someone saying that he wants to kill me. Do think I should suggest an anger management course for him.
Easy Brother.

Yes, that's right, Skippy, some are ink stamps but others are the stamps used for applying a wax seal.

Cheers,

Just in case anyone actually cares, I ended up getting lots of little dinky crap for my lil bro, kung-fu fighting plastic cellphone hangy things, that sort of thing, a "dude rag" - who actually wears those??? And I decided to buy my dad a book, since he needs to expand his literature. So thanks for the cool suggestions, I really like the drum one, pity that I am sure it would cost heaps to send. Though my older brother is coming here on his way home from Scotland in bout Nov, so he could take it back to NZ for Christmas. That could work.
