In march I went to the doctors for a check and paid 70k after the school demanded a medical certificate. Now the school is demanding that I go and get another health check at their 'approved doctor.' This one doesn't speak any english and I really don't won't to be poked and prodded again unecessarily but apparently I'm not allowed to choose the hopsital. I'm so angry.

Anyway, make sure you do it in school time and demand they pay for it.
How rude of them!! Yeah, I'd be more than a bit peeved, too.

I got mine done at the international clinc hence the costs. I have a huge fear of needles and pass out every time I have to give blood. I really don't want to do this more than once.

What would happen if you just said "no". Who is your employer, really? Your school or a school board or an organisation like EPIK? If they really want to play hardball add the stipulations someone suggested above plus that they need to provide a female interpreter. I'm sure they'll never get around to organising all of that.

Then again...it might be a glimpse into what might become a standard requirement for all workers who choose to work in a different country as teachers....

Our school gives free health checks to ALL of the teachers and staff at my uni every 2 years. It's optional, but why not! The school doesn't care if we get the check-up or not, but when you can get a 70,000 W checkup for free...!!

what does it say in your contract about this? Nothing? Tell em to go stuff it. They're prying, getting blood work, checking for drugs and unsafe sexual activity.

I'm not too concerned about the medical, from what I'm told, it's standard for public school teachers, foreign or Korean. The part about telling you which doctor to go to is matter for concern. When I got mine done last year in town, the hospital was. . . not quite as sterile as I'd like a hospital to be.

Well went along with a Korean teacher who had to get her's done after school. Had all the twittering 'waygook' 'waygook' Then more twittering as they read at my numbers. Particularly at my height (I'm 177cm). Passed out when I gave blood.

This medical turned out to be less thorough than my previous medical I had four or five months ago. Still kind of annoyed at having wasted an afternoon and 70k on the first one.

I think it is a dumb request to make considering she already had a check up. I did not say I found the request reasonable or even warranted.

So..how does that make me a fruitcake my little friend?

Steroidsmaximum pointed to possible justifications they might have for requiring this test....I offered another one. Thats not defending anything or taking a position fidel...good lord...

I did say that medical tests might become more frequent for all teachers working outside of of their own nations....
With the recent problems with communicable diseases (SARS, Avian Flu) and the rising fear of some pandemic...it is safe to assume many countries will require teachers from outside to get a medical check. How is that putting a positive light on Korea. It is just a logical deduction from current events Fidel.

Now, wipe the pie off your face and try to put some more thought into a reply before you make it and stuff your foot in your mouth.
