What "famous" people have served in the Military of their home nations.
So far, (mentioned in the other thread) we have:
Elvis
Jimmi Hendrix
I would like to add:
Jimmy Steward who volunteered to fly bombers in WW II despite what the "studio" wanted.
Humphery Bogart : U.S.N., WW I
Any others?
I know there must be more. |

Ted Williams, served as a bomber pilot in both WW II and the Korean war. Imagine what kind of stats he would have produced had he not missed all those seasons. I think he also won a military award or two. Hank Greenberg, Detroit Tigers star 1st baseman, served in WW II too. I think a lot of baseball stars served in the war.
A few other presidents and politicians. Bob Dole and Jimmy Carter served. Carter was in the navy, don't know about Dole's service. Harry Truman fought in WW I. And of course Bob Kerry, John McCain.
Blocking on anyone else at the moment. |

Goran Visnjic of ER served in the Croatian military during the war. In fact, he re-enlisted after the war started. His official duty to the country was finished, but felt a sense of obligation.
One of the good guys for sure. |

Roger Stauback the Dallas quarter back a while back did his time in Vietnam before playing professional football. David Robinson got exempted from fullfilling his military obligations, because of his height. |

Great call man. I read somewhere that not only did Williams serve as a bomber pilot, he did so with unbelievable skill and prowess. I remember reading that his commanding officer was astounded how quickly he learned flight procedures and complex locational readings and actually learned a great deal from him. |

Len8, you're wrong about David Robinson, partially. He had the opportunity to be exempted but he ended up serving. I don't know if he fulfilled his required time, but he certainly served for a couple years after graduating from Annapolis.
Roger Staubach went to 'Nam? I know he went to the Academy and served afterwards, but didn't know he went to Vietnam. Doing what? I don't think he was in the infantry. |
